Delaware River Basin Commission Proposes Draft Drilling Regulations; Three Public Hearings in February

|

On Dec. 9, 2010, the Delaware River Basin Commission (DRBC) released a draft of its proposed new regulations that will affect anything to do with the exploration, drilling and production of natural gas wells within the DRBC’s jurisdiction, which includes parts of the states of Delaware, New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania. The DRBC is responsible for protecting the waters of the Delaware River basin, which brings fresh drinking water to some 15 million people in the U.S.

MDN has pointed out in the past that the DRBC has dragged it heals and obstructed drilling, so this is a good development indeed. MDN has not done a comprehensive review (yet) of the new regulations, but at least there is movement! You can read the draft proposal yourself here:

As part of the review process and before adopting these new regulations, the DRBC is conducting a series of public hearings at three locations. Two public hearing sessions will be held for each location from 1:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. and again from 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Here are the dates and locations:

  • Feb. 22 – Honesdale High School Auditorium, 459 Terrace Street, Honesdale, Pa.
  • Feb. 22 – Liberty High School Auditorium, 125 Buckley Street, Liberty, N.Y.
  • Feb. 24 – Patriots Theater at the War Memorial, 1 Memorial Drive, Trenton, N.J.
