The South Strabane Township Board of Supervisors will conduct a public hearing on Tuesday, July 26, 2011 at 6:30 P.M. in the Public Meeting Room of the Township Municipal Building, 550 Washington Road, Washington PA 15301 to receive public comment regarding a revised draft of proposed amendments to the Township Zoning Ordinance to delete the current definition for oil and gas wells and add definitions for compressor, compressor station, drilling, drilling equipment, natural gas processing facility, oil and gas, oil and gas drilling, oil and gas drilling deep well, oil and gas drilling shallow well, oil and gas drilling subsurface facilities. operator, protected structure, site, water impoundment, well head and well site; add oil and gas drilling subsurface facilities as a permitted use in all zoning districts; delete oil and gas wells as a conditional use in R-1, R-2, R-3, R-4 and C-1 Districts; add oil and gas drilling shallow well site as a conditional use in A-1, R-2, C-2, C-3, 1-1 and 1-2 Districts; add oil and gas drilling deep well site as a conditional use on sites of 20 acres or more in the A-1, 1-1 and 1-2 Districts and on sites of 50 acres or more in the R-2 District; add water impoundment as a conditional use in the A-1, 1-1 and 1-2 Districts; add compressor station and natural gas processing facility as conditional uses in 1-2 District; add parking requirements and conditional use criteria for oil and gas drilling well sites, compressor stations, natural gas processing facilities and water impoundments.

The following technical corrections are also proposed to the Zoning Ordinance: correct section reference for wind farms; provide side yard in A-1 District, correct section numbers in Article IV; add essential services to the C-3 District; delete duplicate language regarding communications antennas; revise criteria for service stations; change references from R-A to A-1 District; and correct buffer area table.

Immediately following the public hearing, the Board of Supervisors will consider enactment of the proposed amendments during their regular business meeting.

Copies of the proposed technical amendments dated 4.4.11 and the proposed oil and gas amendments dated Rev. 7.6,11 are available for public inspection during regular business hours, Monday through Friday, at the South Strabane Township Municipal Building, address above.
