Community Supports 11 New Marcellus Wells in Butler County

Contrary to media reports which make it appear that an overwhelming majority of people oppose Marcellus drilling, not “everyone” is opposed. Case in point: Local citizens in Lancaster Township (Butler County), PA turned out to support drilling in their community in two separate meetings:

The [Lancaster] township supervisors Monday night approved conditional use applications for 11 Marcellus Shale gas wells on two private properties.

The supervisors’ approval means Rex Energy will construct six wells on property owned by Joseph Plesniak at 165 Stone Church Road and five wells on property owned by Edward Belohlavek at 235 E. Lancaster Road.

More than 100 people packed the supervisors meeting room for two public hearings for the proposed wells.

Almost all those in attendance, some of whom stood outside the building and peered through open windows, voiced their support for the wells. A handful of dissenters criticized the proposals.*
