List of Health Care Pros Who Oppose Gas Drilling in NY

| | | |

boycottA list of 250+ physicians and other health care professionals, along with the usual group of opposition groups, sent a letter to New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo yesterday requesting more study of shale gas drilling’s affects on health before approving new regulations and issuing permits to drill. A copy of their letter is embedded below.

A copy of the list of “health care professionals” which includes doctors, nurses, psychologists, veterinarians, dentists, professors, students and others is listed below in case those who support drilling might want to re-think whether or not they continue using the services of these people given their activist stance against drilling.

The letter asserts that the current draft Supplemental Generic Environmental Impact Statement (SGEIS) does not sufficiently address the affects of hydraulic fracturing on human health. It also states anything less than a 180 day review period for the new regulations is not acceptable. (Funny how they’ve read the document to know it doesn’t sufficiently address human health concerns, yet they need more time to keep reading it. Perhaps they’ll find it does address those concerns after all?)

Here is the entire list of “health care professionals” who oppose drilling (organization-only and non-NY names removed):

  1. In spite of the snotty remark about the amount of time they need to address the problems, I’m amazed you’ve printed this and hope you will continue to present BOTH sides.

  2. “A copy of the list of “health care professionals” which includes…”
Why the quotes around health care professionals?
You think they’re just a pack of 250 conspiracy theorist, anti-business commies?
That’s funny, they all benefit from illness. That’s how they make their money.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again Jim, you are going to live to see the day that you regret ever having been a cheerleader for the gas industry. Mark my words.
Most of the long term destruction from fracking isn’t even mentioned in the debate. And it will haunt this country for decades. Billions of dollars worth of properties will be destroyed. And there is no “fix” for the issue I’m talking about.

  3. The quotes are because in typical fashion, there are many people in the list who are not doctors or primary health care providers, as the group furnishing the letter wants you to think. Yes, there are MDs and nurses in the list, quite a few. But also professors of various stripes, college students in medical related programs, etc. Not trying to cast doubt on their credentials, just trying to say hey, there’s more than just doctors in the list.

  4. Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown has issued a statement against fraking/drilling.  Maybe you would like to encourage people to boycott a whole hospital.

  5. Indeed I do! If you can avoid it, go somewhere else. It’s time for people who are opposing a legitimate, safe industry to feel the pressure in return. This is not a one-way street. If you want to destroy a perfectly good industry, you can expect some push-back and I’m hoping people will wake up and start boycotting. So yes, stay away from Bassett.

  6. Just like the small town in WV that conveniently  “forgot” to file court papers in a timely manner to fight drilling. This Hospital and all that oppose should continue to feel the pinch too. NY State will have in place the most stringent drilling regulations in the country. The DEC will add many jobs to oversee this is done responsibly.Boycott ALL the businesses that oppose, I say.Do make sure you all let everyone in your communities know you oppose!! That way we will know where not spend our money . Watch everyone else around you grow and prosper. Then you will all do what everyone knows you’ll do, jump on the profit bandwagon, if you don’t cut off your noses first. So Jim please do post all the Anti’s so I know where to go.

  7. Because they’ve dared to raise questions about the health impact of fracking, stay away from the ONLY hospital system in the area?? That’s one of the STUPIDEST things you’ve ever said!!

  8. Keep the boycott list going.  That way we will know who those people are and can recommend them to others as those people are actual  health care professionals who are really concerned out the health and safety of their communities.  .
