Property Values Up in Marshall, WV; Dominion Invests $1.2B

Dominion Transmission is investing nearly $1.2 billion in Marshall County, WV. Almost half of that—$500 million—will be spent on a new gas processing facility near Natrium (see this MDN story). Earlier this week, Dominion officials updated Marshall County commissioners on the progress of the new facility and other projects underway.

The plant is expected to process 200 million cubic feet of natural gas per day upon completing the first phase, with the capacity expected to double to 400 million cubic feet per day once the company receives further supply commitments.

Once the "wet" Marcellus and Utica shale gas travels to the Dominion plant via the company’s existing pipeline network, the ethane, butane, propane and other natural gas liquids will be separated from the methane gas so that all the products can be individually marketed.

Once construction is complete, officials believe 45-50 full-time, permanent employees will work to operate and maintain the facility.*

Dominion said they are on track to complete the facility by the end of 2012.

The company is also actively working on two pipeline projects:

  1. Appalachian Gateway is 44 miles of 30 inch pipe from Burch Ridge (in Proctor), WV to Waynesburg, PA—with a new compressor plant in Burch Ridge;
  2. A 65-mile pipeline from from the new Natrium facility to Follansbee to connect to an interstate pipeline.

Dominion will also use trucks, barges and railroads to transport gas and liquids.

Bottom line for residents of Marshall County? Not only are there many new jobs, but residents’ property values are going up:

Marshall County Commissioner Jason "Jake" Padlow said investments such as Dominion’s are why property values in the county have skyrocketed.

"New industry causes those values to go up, and that is just from one company," he said.*
