Southwestern Gives Away CNG Chevy Tahoe to Promote Marcellus

There are over 100,000 compressed natural gas (CNG) vehicles on U.S. roadways, and roughly 400 CNG filling stations. Add one more CNG vehicle to that number in South Abington Township in Lackawanna County, PA—given away as a prize to promote CNG awareness.

The price to fill it up? How does $2 per gallon (gasoline equivalent) sound?

Calling natural gas a "national treasure" — an energy company gave away a car Wednesday morning that runs on compressed natural gas — or CNG.

It’s part of a plan to help the public become more familiar with CNG vehicles.

Southwestern Energy employee Kimberly Galella had a smile from ear to ear after winning the brand-new black Chevy Tahoe.

The SUV is fueled by compressed natural gas — which is currently sold for about $2 per gallon.

Southwestern Energy officials say you’ll see many more cars like this in the near future — thanks, in large part, to the Marcellus Shale.*
