Oil & Gas Awards Summits, Looking Back & Looking Forward [Video]

| | |

In October, MDN editor Jim Willis had the pleasure of once again participating in two regional Oil & Gas Award Summits–this time in Dallas, TX and in Oklahoma City, OK. Yes, a little bit out of the Marcellus/Utica orbit, but the event organizers asked nicely. 🙂 It was a blast meeting and talking with oil and gas people in other regions of the country. What a breath of fresh air to visit states like Texas and Oklahoma–where the average resident actually likes the O&G industry! Jim was there to moderate two panel sessions at each event (links to videos to view all four sessions below). Once again the O&G Awards are coming to Pittsburgh, in March 2015. Jim previously sent an email to MDN subscribers, but we also want to post a notice here. There’s a fast-approaching deadline of Dec. 11, 2014 to submit your company for consideration for an award. We have the details…

Here’s the text of the email sent earlier this week:

Once again Marcellus Drilling News editor Jim Willis is proud to participate in, and promote, the Oil & Gas Awards. The Northeast event will happen in Pittsburgh on March 25. NOW is the time for nominations. If you work for a producer, midstream company, oilfield services company, law firm, engineering firm, water company, etcetera… you still have time to enter. The deadline to submit your company for consideration is Thursday, Dec. 11.

The awards champion best practices in key areas of Operational Excellence, Health & Safety, Environmental Stewardship and Corporate Social Responsibility. The industry faces many challenges away from the well head. Most members of the general public don’t distinguish between upstream and midstream operations. The Oil & Gas Awards program gives the industry a platform to recognize organizations that take their responsibilities seriously.

The Awards are a key platform for the industry to be showcased at its very best. The Awards perform a key role in highlighting best practices to industry critics.

The awards are judged by an ever-increasing list of respected E&P and midstream professionals.

The Awards get a huge amount of publicity for finalists and winners.

Please consider participating in the Oil & Gas Awards. The Awards are FREE to enter and should you be a finalist, the cost to attend the Gala Dinner is minimal. The recognition–even as a finalist–is incalculable.

Good Luck!

Jim Willis
Editor, Marcellus Drilling News

You don’t have to be entered for an award to attend the Industry Summit, held on the day of the awards ceremony. What will you hear at such a summit? The folks at the Oil & Gas Awards have kindly posted videos for all of the sessions at both the Dallas and OKC events (as well as the recent Bakersfield, CA event). Jim participated in two of the three.

For the Southwestern Summit, you can view the agenda of topics and speakers here:

You can view videos of the sessions here:

Jim moderates the fourth and fifth sessions, with the titles:

  • MINIMIZING THE ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT OF OPERATIONS: MANAGING WATER, AIR AND LAND
  • ENSURING REGULATORY COMPLIANCE – THE CHALLENGE OF AIR POLLUTION GUIDELINES IN THE SOUTHWEST

For the Midcontinent Summit, you can view the agenda of topics and speakers here:

View the Midcontinent videos here:

Jim moderates the third and fifth sessions, with the titles:

  • WATER, AIR AND LAND MANAGEMENT – ASSESSING THE TRAINING AND EQUIPMENT REQUIRED TO ENSURE REGULATORY COMPLIANCE AND THE LIMITATION OF NEGATIVE IMPACT
  • ASSESSING THE IMPACT OF NEW WILDLIFE ENDANGERMENT REGULATIONS ON PRODUCTION OPERATIONS, SPECIFICALLY REGARDING THE LESSER PRAIRIE CHICKEN

Three asides:

1. You try to talk about the Lesser Prairie Chicken for 45 minutes! On a more serious note, we did have a good discussion about T&ES, or Threatened and Endangered Species and how the issue of T&E species impacts the O&G industry. The two gentleman who spoke on Jim’s panel deserve big kudos for entering “enemy territory”–speaking before a crowd that doesn’t particularly cotton to what they perceive as overreach by the federal and state government.

2. Be sure to watch the very first video on the Midcontinent page. It is the keynote delivered by Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt. Jim just about stood up to cheer when he talked. Wow! We later joked (in the third session) that we’d be happy to trade our AG in NY for Pruitt any day of the week. Pruitt’s talk was outstanding.

3. Both of the other moderators in OKC, and one of the other moderators in Dallas, were from Natural Gas Intelligence (NGI). Jim works closely with and for NGI, consulting with them on the marketing of their stellar products (including Shale Daily and Daily Gas Price Index) and on new business development. We can’t say enough good things about the pros at NGI. The organization is filled with top notch journalists. Jim marvels that NGI continues to put up with his mouthy blogging ways!

So, those of you in the shale industry, or serving the industry–get your awards entries in NOW. And let’s plan to meet up in Pittsburgh in March! We’d like to fill the audience with MDN readers!!
