If Shell builds an ethane cracker plant in Beaver County, PA, as they’ve been teasing since 2011, the massive plant will require a lot of electricity to power it–enough electricity to power 100,000 homes. Shell does not plan to just hook up to the local utility for its electricity. Instead, they will build their own natural gas-powered electric generating plant on location.
