Winter Safety Seminar Features NIOSH Marcellus/Utica Field Research

shaledirectoryAttention Marcellus and Utica drillers (and those companies working in and for the industry): A National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) expert will present the findings of his field research in the Marcellus/Utica at the Winter Safety Seminar being held in Williamsport, PA on November 4th. OSHA (Occupational Health and Safety Administration) and EPA (Environmental Protection Agency), two federal agencies, are powerful forces when it comes to regulating companies across the country–including oil and gas companies. The NIOSH research will include a heads-up on what drillers and others in the industry can expect in the way of rules and the enforcement of those rules by OSHA and the EPA. Ignore this information at your own peril!…

The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) has conducted oil and gas safety and health field research in 2015 and will be reporting its findings of its Marcellus and Utica site visits in Northeastern Pennsylvania at the Winter Safety Seminar on November 4, 2015 at the Williamsport Country Club in Williamsport, PA. The winter safety seminar will have Inflection Energy as the presenting sponsor and will be produced by Shale Directories.

John Snawder, NIOSH Research Toxicologist, will present the findings of the site visits in Northeastern Pennsylvania. Snawder’s presentation will discuss the new portable laboratory and equipment that NIOSH can now bring to the field. Most importantly, Snawder will cover the types of operations NIOSH observed and present the overall results focusing on different worker activities and jobs highlighting the hazards on the well sites and how workers may be exposed and the best work practices.

Snawder will further talk about differences between well types- wet vs. dry gas, oil or mixed oil and gas, and different basins. Snawder commented, “E&P Companies should take advantage of the slowed work pace to evaluate some of the known hazards and now is the time to develop controls and best practices to improve safety when drilling picks up again.”

From Snawder’s presentation, attendees will get an indication of the new OSHA and EPA regulations that will be coming out in 2016. The NIOSH presentation will give safety managers a head start on planning for 2016.

Joining NIOSH will be representatives from Timberland PRO, Bulwark and Capital Safety which provide safety managers with information to help workers operate safer under difficult winter conditions.

E&P Company safety managers will find the Winter Safety Seminar very informative. The seminar will be held on November 4, 2015 from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Williamsport Country Club in Williamsport, PA.

Businesses and Individuals interested in attending can register at //safetyseminar.net/. Registrations are limited in order to maximize the networking opportunities for attendees.
