MDN Hits Milestone – Over 25,000 Posts!

Earlier this week, the Marcellus Drilling News website hit a true milestone–25,000 posts/articles. We don’t often (never, actually) stop to toot our own horn. But we thought this milestone deserved a mention. And a reminder that all MDN paying subscribers have access to ALL of our massive archive of articles. There are two ways to locate an article on a topic of interest quickly…

MDN Off for MLK Day – Jan 16, 2023

Dear MDN Reader:

Since it is a stock exchange holiday, and to honor the memory of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., MDN is taking today off, Monday, Jan. 16. Full strength MDN will return Tuesday!

MDN Will be Off for Holidays from Dec. 26 Through Jan. 2

We wish you a Merry Christmas…and a Happy New Year! MDN will take off (i.e. no new stories posted) between Dec. 26th and Jan. 2nd in observance of the holiday season. Don’t worry, we’ll still keep an eye on the news, and if anything earth-shattering happens, we’ll post about it. However, our intent is to take a break from writing for an entire week. We will see you again on Tuesday, January 3rd.

A brief note to thank you, our loyal readers, from the bottom of our heart. Thank you for subscribing and resubscribing year after year. We take our responsibility seriously to bring you the news–in context–throughout the year. We look forward to 2023 with eager anticipation for what it will bring in the Marcellus/Utica.

MDN Off Thursday & Friday for Thanksgiving Holiday

Happy Thanksgiving! MDN is taking both Thanksgiving Thursday and Black Friday off. While you’re taking time to be thankful for your friends, family, food, drinks, and other luxuries, take a moment to say THANK YOU to the resources that make this holiday so wonderful: fossil fuels! Below is a video from our friends at Clear Energy Alliance. Watch it (under 4 minutes) to learn just how much oil, natural gas, and coal bring to the table during the holiday season–and every other day of the year.

VOTE! Today!! Please!!!

Today is national election day in the United States. It is VITAL that you vote, especially if you believe in keeping a free and open society with access to cheap, clean-burning fossil energy. Borrowing a phrase from New York candidate for Governor, Lee Zeldin, “Vote as if your life depends on it. Because it does!”

We must turn back the insanity of the left in attempting to phase out fossil energy. Fingers crossed that today will be the beginning of the end for the Bidenistas holding power.

Columbus Day Holiday 2022 – MDN is Off Today

It’s Columbus Day! MDN will not publish our regular list of stories today–but have no fear, we will be back tomorrow (Tuesday) with a full lineup.

Take a moment today to celebrate the world’s most famous Italian–the guy who started it all, the guy who discovered the Americas and what would one day become the greatest country on earth: The United States of America!

Special Edition: POGLA Presentation 2022

MDN Editor Jim Willis had the honor of presenting today at the Pennsylvania Oil & Gas Landowner Alliance (POGLA) annual meeting. Jim took on the topic of SWOT: Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats for PA Shale Drilling. The aim was to inform landowners and rights owners about where we find ourselves today, what influences more (or less) drilling for hydrocarbons in the state, and how landowners and rights owners can potentially take advantage of our current status. Jim put in a lot of research and thinking into the presentation. We bring you his presentation today in lieu of our regular lineup of news stories (Jim didn’t have time to do both!).

Below is not only the slide deck from the presentation but also Jim’s running commentary/notes for each slide. So sit back, open up the presentation, and get up to speed on PA shale drilling.

Sorry, No Permits Data Today – PA DEP System Down Again

In what appears to be a regular occurrence, the Pennsylvania Dept. of Environmental Protection’s online database of oil and gas permit information is offline once again, throwing an error. Very frustrating. We checked Ohio’s numbers and found only a single new permit issued for last week. West Virginia issued five new permits last week. Given that PA typically issues the most new permits, we’ve decided to hold back the report until we can complete it with PA data, hopefully early next week. We’ll keep you posted.

Here’s what you see when accessing the DEP system:

MDN New Advertiser of Interest to Landowners/Mineral Rights Owners

In April, MDN told you about an exciting new FREE service for landowners and rights owners called MineraliQ (see Enverus Launches Free Online Tool to Track Mineral Rights, Royalties). MineraliQ is an online service that provides everything you need to know about your minerals in one place, including payments, well locations, and important activities near your minerals that you should know about. The new service will even help you estimate how much your mineral rights are worth now and in the future.

MDN Off for Vacation July 4-8

If you’ve read Marcellus Drilling News for any length of time, you know it’s a rarity for editor Jim Willis to take a full week of vacation. But he’s decided to do it for the week of July 4-8. We will not post during the week–unless there’s earth-shattering news to share! Otherwise, we will be back on July 11 to catch you up on all the news related to the Marcellus/Utica. We hope you enjoy(ed) the 4th!

MDN Off Today – Juneteenth 2022

Today, June 20th, is a stock exchange and bank holiday. Juneteenth is a federal holiday in the U.S. commemorating the emancipation of enslaved African Americans. Juneteenth marks the anniversary of the announcement of General Order No. 3 by Union Army General Gordon Granger on June 19, 1865, proclaiming freedom for enslaved people in Texas. Originating in Galveston, the holiday has since been celebrated annually on June 19 in various parts of the United States, often broadly celebrating African-American culture. The day was first recognized as a federal holiday in June 2021, when President Joe Biden signed the Juneteenth National Independence Day Act into law.

The Juneteenth holiday is observed today (Monday) this year because the 19th fell on a weekend day. As with other bank holidays, MDN will not publish today.

MDN Off Today, Fri. May 27 & Mon. May 30, for Memorial Day

MDN will not publish on Friday, May 27, nor on Monday, May 31. Jim is taking Friday off in preparation for a wedding happening in his family. Monday is, of course, the Memorial Day holiday. A shout out to all of our currently serving and former veterans, and remembrance for those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our country. They are not forgotten.

MDN Off Today – President’s Day Holiday 2022

Believe it or not, today is a New York Stock Exchange holiday (i.e. bank) holiday. MDN rarely takes a day off, so we tend to track with those holidays observed by the NYSE. Have no fear, we are monitoring the news and if anything earth-shattering happens, we’ll bring you the latest. Otherwise, look for full-strength MDN to return tomorrow.

Note to MDN Readers

A quick note to MDN readers to let you know that the software plugin we use to display PDF files is currently not functioning properly. When viewing a post with a PDF embedded the first page of the file should show immediately. It currently takes one to two minutes for the file to display. However, the file name is displayed and if you click on it, the full file should download to your computer and allow you to view it. We are working on a fix for this issue.

A second quick note: The website that provides the daily oil and natural gas price which we display on the right side of the site, oil-price.net, is currently “off the air” and not providing updates. We are monitoring the situation and hope it returns soon!

MDN Off for MLK Day – Jan 17, 2022
