MDN Prediction of Gasland Deux is Spot On

|

Here’s an “I told you so.” Last week, MDN covered the story of the arrest of Gasland filmmaker Josh Fox at a Congressional hearing (see this MDN story). That episode gave rise to MDN’s weekly update this past Sunday, and the current MDN poll which asks if Gasland is truth or fiction.

In Sunday’s weekly update, MDN wrote:

There was plenty of press on hand to cover the hearing. Josh Fox, the filmmaker who created the “documentary” Gasland was there too. No doubt Josh needs some new footage for Gasland Deux.

And no lie, I’ll be hanged if that tongue-in-cheek comment was not prescient:

The arrest of a documentary filmmaker at Rep. Andy Harris’ hearing on hydraulic fracturing last week likely will become fodder for a movie.

Director Josh Fox said during an interview that he expects to feature his arrest in "Gasland II," a documentary on the fracking industry’s influence on Congress, due out sometime this summer. It’s the sequel to his Oscar-nominated documentary on the dangers of fracking, a process used to extract gas and oil from shale.*

So Josh’s arrest was intentional and staged after all. Figures. Lie-telling sells more movies than truth-telling.

  1. And with so may media are writing about his arrest and upcoming movie, I’m sure he appreciates the free publicity.

But as far as “Lie-telling sells more movies than truth-telling”, it certainly works on the web.

  2. I hope there is some film maker out there making a rebuttal film on how natural gas has saved many farmers, people, and businesses from foreclosure. That brought Towns,Counties,States  out of the red with all the tax dollars collected. I guess success stories of the average Joe or Jane don’t make good movies.People just love negative news we are so accustom to hearing it everyday.

  3. Hoping to see more spigots flaming in Part 2. Water wells drilled through coal seams always make for good propaganda.

  4. There is a film called Gas Odyssey by Aaron Price already out. And I’m aware of at least one other now in the works. I’ll be reporting more on those in the future.

  5. Unfortunately Jim, first I am hearing of any pro film. Furthermore who aired it. I see Gasland at least once a week while flipping through the HBO package I have on cable.  Who will air the opposite side of the argument with the same frequency??

  6. Don’t expect to see if on HBO! That’s for sure. We have to work hard to get our side of the story out there. Wish I had a good answer for you on better publicity.

  7. Well that is all I needed to hear. T the arrest of Josh Fox proves that they shaved the hides of those cows and the cats.  And that lady who blamed the lesions on her skin on contaminated water must have inflicted those rashhes on herself.  Why else would they arrest Josh Fox if he weren’t a liar and a hoaxter.  OK all is well so drill baby drill and don’t worry about the chemicals that go into the earth…eventually the earthquakes will swallow it all.
