OH High School First to Offer 2-Year O&G Tech Course

In what is believed to be the first of its kind for Ohio, high school students at Marlington High School (Alliance, OH) can take a two-year course in oil and gas technologies starting this fall. The new course will prepare students with the skills they need to work in the rapidly growing shale drilling industry.

Marlington High School has plans to begin offering an oil and gas technologies course for juniors and seniors.

Plans are to offer a two-period per day class for two years. There will be an accelerated one-year class for seniors set to graduate in 2013.

“We are consistently striving to offer new courses that place our students on a path to success,” said Nick Evanich, Marlington’s career tech director. “Adopting a course that allows our students to break into an evolving field gives Marlington an academic and professional advantage.”

Marlington plans to work with gas an oil industry leaders to provide training that will equip students with skills in basic exploration and production, workplace safety, communication and team work. Plans are to develop a comprehensive curriculum that covers all facets of the industry.
