The show is co-hosted by Kevin Lynn of Linde Corporation and Bill desRosiers from Cabot Oil & Gas. MDN brings you the latest program show notes and recordings for Shale Gas News each week (well worth your time to listen). Here’s the latest program, recorded on Saturday, Dec. 27…
The Shale Gas News, heard every Saturday morning at 10 AM on 94.3 FM “The Talker,” talked methane measurements and plummeting unemployment this past Saturday.
The Shale Gas News is typically broadcast live and this past Saturday’s program, the podcast of which is available here, included an interview with Peter Quigg from the Community Foundation of the Endless Mountains, and covered the following territory:
- What are the takeaways for Pennsylvania following New York’s fracking ban?
- Sinking Oil Price Is Hard on North Sea Producers, according to the New York Times, and If Brent crude remains around $60 to $70, at least 85% of new British offshore oil and gas resources now in the planning are at risk of being dropped.
- Unemployment has plummeted in Southwestern Pennsylvania, “thanks largely to accelerated Marcellus Shale development and growth in its supply chain. According to the Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry, the jobless rate was 3.9 percent in Greene and under 4.7 percent in Washington in October, the latest month for which countywide statistics are available. Both counties have fared better than most of the nation for nearly two years.”
- New Jersey residents are breathing easier, also thanks to Pennsylvania Marcellus Shale. Natural gas from the Marcellus Shale, in fact, has led many power plants to shift from coal to cleaner-burning gas, which has reduced particulates 76 percent over five years.
- A rolling laboratory is tracking methane to its source to see how much comes from natural gas drilling activities. A team from Penn State’s Department of Meteorology is taking the measurements and racking up the miles.
