Shale Gas News Radio – Mar 7, 2015 [Audio]
Every Saturday the one-hour Shale Gas News show airs on Scranton, PA’s 94.3 FM “The Talker” radio station. The show is co-hosted by Kevin Lynn of Linde Corporation and Bill desRosiers from Cabot Oil & Gas. MDN brings you the latest program show notes and recordings for Shale Gas News each week (well worth your time to listen). Here’s the latest program, recorded on Saturday, Mar 7…
The Shale Gas News is typically broadcast live and this past Saturday’s program, the podcast of which is available here, covered the following new territory (see news excerpts below) and, among many more topics, included interviews with Colleen Connelly of Pennsylvania DEP and Tony Ventello of the Bradford County Progress Authority (which also serves Susquehanna County):
- Tom Wolf’s severance tax proposal is not popular with Marcellus Shale gas industry. Marcellus Shale Coalition president Dave Spigelmyer warned of the potential for economically damaging consequences, especially in light of changing global market dynamics.
- Post-Gazette: Wolf budget with severance tax “a miss…utter folly.” The bulk of the tax revenue will be invested in public education, the Democratic governor said in his budget address to the General Assembly. [Editor’s Note: Meaning, of course, public employee pensions.]
- The proposed severance tax on shale-gas drillers would punish industry, Turzai says. A 5 percent severance tax on shale gas drilling be punitive and would hurt a burgeoning industry in the long run, Pennsylvania House Speaker Mike Turzai warned Monday.
- Tom Wolf says the Commonwealth needs to pump up gas regs. The governor’s budget adds $10M for more DEP oversight and staff. Incredibly, Wolf also wants to restore $315,000 of a state aid cut to the Delaware River Basin Commission while DRBC still has a moratorium on gas drilling!
- UGI is decreasing natural gas rates beginning in March. The average residential heating bill for UGI gas customers will be decreasing about 3.8 percent a month — from $85.43 to $82.20.
- Invenergy makes its pitch for power plant at open house. State Rep. Frank Farina, D-112, Jessup, said, while he’s still gathering facts, he has found “there’s definitely more pros than there is cons.”
- Leatherstocking moves forward with pipeline system in Windsor, NY. Virtually none of Windsor’s future natural gas supply will be sourced locally or, for that matter, from within New York State.
