WV Property Taxes on Shale Jump 40% from 2018 to 2019

West Virginia shale producers pay a 5% severance tax on all natural gas produced–you knew that, right? And in 2018 WV’s oil and gas producers (mostly shale) paid $138 million in severance taxes (see WV O&G Pays $138M in Severance Tax in ’18, Up 4.3% from ’17). But did you know that producers (i.e. drillers) also pay property taxes, on top of severance taxes? That’s right! And in 2019 WV’s drillers will pay an extra $123 million in property tax on top of the severance tax they pay this year–up 40% from last year.

East Goshen Denies Sunoco Request to Work on ME2 Pipe 24/7

The town of East Goshen, in Chester County, PA (near Philadelphia) has a noise ordinance in place from 10 pm to 7 am. Sunoco Logisitics, working on installing a section of the Mariner East 2 pipeline through the township, requested an exemption to allow them to work all night long. Their argument is that once you start pulling pipe through the hole you’ve just drilled, you can’t just stop. Last week the town supervisors voted against granting the exception. Shhh, quiet after 10.

NETL Makes Case in Congress for Big Appalachian NGL Storage Hub

The U.S. Department of Energy’s National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL) recently pulled together a report (“findings”) that were circulated to Congress, making the case for a large-scale natural gas liquids (NGL) storage and trading hub in the Marcellus/Utica region. No doubt this report was a response to moves by the radical left to prevent such a hub from receiving any kind of federal loan guarantees.

PA Gov. Wolf Threatens to Issue Order on Power Plants

PA Gov. Wolf

In April, Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf, along with a number of Senate and House Democrats (and a few Philadelphia RINOs), announced updated changes to the state’s so-called “climate” plan–changes that will doom the state economically (see PA Gov. Wolf, Dem Legislators Release Even Worse “Climate” Plan). Among other things, Wolf plans to implement a cap-and-trade plan to control every aspect of Pennsylvanian’s lives by controlling how much and where they get energy from. And now Wolf is saying if the PA legislature won’t help him do it, he’ll just seize power and do it via Executive Order.

Con Ed Desperately Looking for Sites to Add CNG in Westchester County

Consolidated Edison (Con Ed), the electric and natural gas utility that services parts of New York City and to the north of NY, Westchester County, is getting desperate in their bid to locate sites where they can unload CNG (compressed natural gas) trucks into their pipeline network in Westchester County. You may recall Con Ed was the first utility to slap a moratorium on any new natgas customers from hooking up to their supply system in Westchester, back in March (see Moratorium on New Gas Hookups in Westchester County Begins Today). That moratorium remains in place–for the next four years. However, Con Ed is running low on gas for new customers approved *before* they put the moratorium in place.

Two Lawsuits Filed Against Enbridge for KY TETCO Pipe Explosion

On August 1, Enbridge’s Texas Eastern Pipeline Company (TETCO) pipeline exploded in Lincoln County, Kentucky–killing one and sending six to the hospital (see TETCO Pipe Explodes in Kentucky Killing 1; Southbound M-U Gas Stops). Since that time one of the three TETCO pipes in the area has returned to service. We’re just now learning that at least two lawsuits have been filed against Enbridge and TETCO–one for wrongful death, the other by a couple severely injured and burned following the incident.

Joe Biden as Radical on Frack Ban as Elizabeth Warren

Sleepy Joe Biden

There is not a SINGLE major candidate for the Democrat nomination for president that has not pledged to end the use of fracking in the oil and gas industry. It’s a breathtaking turn of events–that someone who wants to lead this nation would strip away Constitutional rights from its citizens in a massive power grab. Not even sleepy Joe Biden is exempt. He’s on record saying he would end the use of fracking across the country, same as Elizbeth “Pocahontas” Warren.
