Harrison County, WV Tries to Keep Gas-Fired Power Plant Proj Alive

Tomorrow the Harrison County Commission will consider (and most likely approve) an extension for an option to purchase property at the site of a proposed natural gas-fired power plant in Harrison County. Energy Solutions Consortium (ESC) currently has an option to buy the site of a proposed 550-megawatt natural gas-fired power plant, but the option expires on Dec. 31 of this year.

Johns Hopkins Junk Science: PA Fracking Gives You Heart Failure

Do political, agenda-driven “researchers” never tire of spinning false narratives around fracking? When Michael Bloomberg pays your salary (as he does for researchers at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health), apparently not. Back in 2016, Brian Schwartz, a fellow at the Post Carbon Institute (virulent anti-fossil fuel group) was among a group of researchers who published a junk science report claiming fracking in PA gives you headaches (see Johns Hopkins Junk Science: Fracking Gives You Headaches). He’s baaaack! This time Schwartz says PA fracking gives you (gasp)…heart failure.

PA is Nation’s Top Electricity Net Exporter Thx to Marcellus Shale

Yesterday MDN brought you a post about the dramatic increase in natural gas-fired electric plants in the Marcellus/Utica, particularly Pennsylvania (see NatGas-Fired Power Plants in M-U See Dramatic Increase 2015-2019). Today we have another post (also from the U.S. Energy Information Administration) about gas-fired electric power. Gas-fracking giant Pennsylvania was the largest net exporter of electricity in 2019, and gas-phobic California was the largest net importer of electricity in 2019…complete with ongoing, severe blackouts.

Predatory Hedge Fund “Engine No. 1” Targets Exxon for Takeover

While so-called “activist investors” can sometimes accomplish good things (like the Rice boys in their takeover of EQT last year), it is our observation that most “activist investors” are destructive. A new hedge fund calling itself Engine No. 1 is one such destructive company. The hedge fund, based in San Francisco (which explains a lot) has ExxonMobil in its sights, attempting a hostile takeover of the company by getting four of its own candidates named to the board, and after that, forcing Exxon (an oil company) to forsake oil drilling and focus on “clean energy.”

SNG: Researchers Convert NatGas to a Solid for Storage, Shipping

A new method creates solid hydrates of “combustible ice” that can store natural gas safely and at practical temperatures (National University of Singapore)

Last Friday MDN posted a link to news in our “best of the rest” about an amazing new discovery that we think needs more attention. Researchers at the National University of Singapore (NUS) have developed a new low-toxicity (very safe) mixture that converts natural gas into a solid, non-explosive form of ice, making it easy to transport and store. Get ready for a new term: SNG.
