A daily email with the latest headlines is free for all, available by signing up at the website (right sidebar for the computer version, scroll down for the mobile phone version).
Below is a brief guide to help you effectively use the MDN website, including how to log in and reset your password, turning daily emails on or off, locating stories of interest quickly, billing and cancellation information, and more.
How to Log In
VIA COMPUTER: If you are not logged in, you will see the word Login in the upper right corner of the MDN website. Click it and provide your username and password to log in. If you are already logged in, you will see the word Account in the upper right.
VIA MOBILE PHONE: If you are not logged in, when you click the drop-down menu (three horizontal stacked lines) in the upper right corner, you will see the word Log In at the bottom of the menu. Click it and provide your username and password to log in. If you are already logged in, you will see the word Log Out at the bottom of the drop-down menu.
How to Reset Your Password
If you have forgotten your password or the password does not work, click the link to Login. On the screen that appears is an option called Lost your password? Click the link, supply either your username or email address, and instructions will be emailed to the email address you used to register your account. Be sure to check the Spam folder if you don’t see the email within a minute or two.
Logged In, Can’t See Full Stories
If you are logged in (you see the word Account (computer) or My Account (mobile phone), but you still cannot access full stories, that means there is an issue with your subscription. You likely have more than one account and are logged in to the old/non-active account. Please send an email to jim@marcellusdrilling.com, and Jim Willis will contact you to assist in resolving the issue.
Daily Email
Each weekday, you will receive an email at approximately 12 p.m. ET with a list of the latest stories posted to the MDN website. The headlines are linked to stories for your convenience.
If you want to pause or unsubscribe from the daily email, it’s easy to do so. Be sure you are logged in to the MDN website (see Login instructions above).
- Click on the Account (via computer) or My Account (via mobile phone) option in the upper right corner.
- On the page that appears, select MDN Daily.
- Under the heading Mailing List Groups, you will see MDN Daily and a checkbox next to it. A checkmark in the box indicates that you will receive the daily email. Uncheck to opt out.
- Click the Update info button to confirm.
If you suddenly stop receiving the daily email but did not click to unsubscribe, there could be several reasons. First, follow the instructions above to log in and verify whether your account is set to receive the daily email. Sometimes email providers randomly implement filters that mistakenly mark MDN emails as spam. Check the Spam folder. If the MDN email is present, mark it as “not spam” to train your email provider to direct it to your inbox. If the MDN daily email is not in the Spam folder, contact jim@marcellusdrilling.com, and Jim Willis will investigate and try to help you get your daily emails working again.
Locating Stories of Interest
People typically use MDN in one of two ways. (1) Keep abreast of the latest news as it happens, via the daily email. (2) Research a particular issue, company, or region.
To locate information on the MDN website about a particular topic (person, company, issue, etc.), there are two ways to find it:
SEARCH: One is to use the Search box, located on the upper right of the site (computer version) or scroll down below the most recent stories (mobile phone version). Use one, two, or three keywords; the simpler, the better. Every post is indexed, and if those words are present, you will see a list of the posts that contain those keywords. Search syntax assumes “and” between keywords, meaning all of the keywords must be in a post.
ARTICLE INDEX: The other very powerful way to locate content of interest is to browse the MDN Article Index page. Editor Jim Willis categorizes each post on the MDN website, classifying it according to the topics, geography, issues, or companies mentioned in the post. Browse the Index page to quickly locate a complete archive of stories for a particular topic. The work has already been done for you! Warning: It’s a loooong list. Be sure to scroll all the way down to view the available categories.
Billing & Cancellation
MONTHLY: If you purchased a monthly recurring subscription, your credit or debit card will be charged $7.95 on the same day each month. You will not receive any prior notice for monthly charges.
ANNUAL: If you purchased an annual subscription, your credit or debit card will be charged $79.50 on the anniversary of your original purchase. You will receive an email notice approximately one week prior to the charge.
If you want to cancel your subscription and end either monthly or annual charges, you may do so at any time. If you are logged in, click the word Account in the upper right corner of the screen (via computer) or click My Account in the drop-down menu (via mobile phone). On the screen that appears, select the menu item called Subscriptions. You will see the details of your active subscription, including the “Last order date” and “Next payment date.” Next to Actions, you will see a button called Cancel. Click it to cancel any future payments and end your subscription.
Update Payment Info
To update your payment information for a credit or debit card, click the Account link (via computer) or My Account link (via mobile phone) and select Payment methods. There, you can check to see when your current payment method expires, and you can add a new payment method for expiring cards.
