Net Power, backed by the Rice brothers (of Rice Energy and EQT fame), is on a mission to develop and deploy revolutionary new technology to capture every last molecule of carbon dioxide from natural gas-fired power plants (see Dan Rice Buys Co. that Builds Zero-Carbon Gas-Fired Electric Plants). Net Power is grappling with a rapidly changing landscape. Yes, power generators would love to eliminate all of their CO2 emissions—don’t even create CO2 to begin with, as Net Power’s original tech does. However, the technology is just not yet ready (at a price the market will support). Therefore, the company pivoted at the end of 2025 to embrace a technology that's commercially ready now (see Net Power Pivots to Focus on Post-Combustion Carbon Capture (PCC)). Post-combustion carbon capture will capture 90% of CO2 using existing technology. In its fourth-quarter update earlier this week, Net Power CEO Danny Rice said the company is now executing its new strategy to pursue PCC.
