The hottest late-August stretch in half a century is pushing physical natural gas prices up all over the country. Gas trading Wednesday for Thursday delivery in the desert Southwest went off at $5.295 per MMBtu. Gas coming out of the ground in southwestern Pennsylvania went off at $1.520. Same commodity, same day, same country — and the Marcellus seller got 29 cents on the Southwest dollar. That is the pipeline egress problem in a single line, and it's why every landowner in the M-U should learn to read a spot price table.
