According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA), demand for natural gas (i.e. "consumption") will go up during the first quarter of 2022, up from a previously forecasted estimate. EIA says consumption in Q1 will hit an average of 102.47 Bcf/d (billion cubic feet per day), up by 3.42 Bcf/d. Why? Due to below-average temperatures in the Northeast and Midwest, and due to ongoing strong demand for U.S. LNG exports. EIA, as part of its Short-Term Energy Outlook (STEO), also raised natgas consumption estimates for Q2--up by 650 MMcf/d (million cubic feet per day).
