U.S. Senator Dave McCormick (R-PA) visited the University of Pennsylvania's AIRFoundry, an AI-driven research lab funded by the National Science Foundation, to emphasize AI's role in advancing biomedical and drug development. The lab uses AI, robotics, and automation to significantly accelerate the development of RNA-based medicines and other biotechnologies, reducing years of work to weeks. This technology has the potential to drastically reduce drug discovery timelines and costs, with commercialization efforts already leading to university spin-off companies. Penn is also fostering AI talent, being the first Ivy League institution to offer an undergraduate AI degree, with the program expected to grow.
