Newport Twp, Luzerne County, PA
On Monday night, hundreds of residents packed a Newport Township, Luzerne County, commissioners' meeting to oppose a giant AI data center campus planned for old mine land in the Lee section of the township. The Times Leader reports the plan calls for 15 data centers and three natural gas power generation facilities on nearly 1,400 acres. The township issued 15 zoning permits for it back in August. Yet one commissioner told the crowd the board hasn't even met with the developer. The very next morning, the developer, Fit Energy, finally went public with a glossy press release and website. Talk about timing.
