PJM Fixes Data Center Power Auction, Aims for March 2027 Restart

| | |
Round two. A month after FERC accepted PJM Interconnection's one-time "emergency" power auction for data centers and then froze it for five months (see FERC Slams Brakes on PJM's 'Deeply Flawed' Data Center Power Auction), PJM is back with a fixed version. On Oct. 29, the grid operator for all or part of 13 states (including PA, OH and WV) filed an amended Reliability Backstop Procurement (RBP) with FERC. PJM fixed all three problems FERC flagged, pretty much the way FERC suggested. The new plan opens bidding March 1, 2027, and posts winners May 10. Here's what changed, and what it means for gas-fired power in our neck of the woods.
