Judge Signs Off on $1.9M Fine for Chesapeake PA Wetland Violations

| | | | | |
Back in March MDN told you about supposed violations by Chesapeake Energy of the federal Clean Water Act and the Pennsylvania Clean Streams Law and Dam Safety and Encroachments Act by failing to identify and protect swamps (i.e. wetlands) at a number of oil and gas well sites in Pennsylvania (see Chesapeake Fined $1.9M for Wetland Violations at 76 PA Well Sites). Chessy agreed to pay $1.9 million, something called a "Consent Decree" to make it go away. Yesterday a federal judge approved the deal. Chessy can now get out its checkbook. But the checks won't stop at a piddly $1.9 million.
