The supposed friction stems from Wright being allegedly too slow to inform the White House of his plans to cancel tens of billions in clean energy grants and too willing to accommodate industry interests seeking to preserve some funding, which clashed with the White House's desire for a rapid, "wholesale dismantling" of Biden-era projects. The tensions have contributed to internal rifts and to the removal of several senior DOE staff members.
