Mason County, West Virginia — population roughly 27,000 — just became the most interesting square of dirt in the Mountain State. On September 3, at the West Virginia Chamber of Commerce Business Summit at The Greenbrier, Gov. Patrick Morrisey announced that Starwood Digital Ventures has been certified under West Virginia's high-impact data center program for "Project Tamarack," a $12 billion campus at West Columbia. It will need 2.16 gigawatts (GW) of power. Unlike its new neighbor up the road, Tamarack isn't building its own power plant — it's plugging into the grid.
