Is EQT's blockbuster deal to buy Range Resources the first domino in a new wave of Marcellus/Utica mergers? A Reuters analysis published yesterday suggests it might be. An analyst with Rystad Energy told the news service more Northeast combinations are likely over the next couple of years, and he named names: Antero Resources, CNX Resources, and National Fuel Gas's soon-to-be-independent Seneca Resources, with Expand Energy as a possible buyer. The same article carried a nugget we haven't seen anywhere else. EQT CEO Toby Rice says EQT now expects new demand for Appalachian gas to top 25 billion cubic feet per day (Bcf/d), up from its earlier estimate of about 20 Bcf/d.
