    Shale Insight Starts Today – Visit MDN in Booth 208

    Shale InsightWelcome to Pittsburgh! MDN editor Jim Willis always enjoys the City of Bridges. Today begins Shale Insight. If you’re attending (and a number of MDN subscribers do attend), please stop by Booth 208 and say hello. There will be a number of top notch speakers both today and tomorrow. The person grabbing most of the headlines is Donald Trump, who will speak tomorrow. However, there are many other noteworthy speakers on the agenda. Harold Hamm, CEO of Continental Resources is one of them. Gary Heminger, CEO of Marathon Petroleum is another. Other standouts for MDN: Stacey Olson, the new president of Chevron Appalachia; Gladys Brown, chairwoman of the PA Public Utility Commission; Keith Burdette, Secretary of the West Virginia Department of Commerce; Camera Bartolotta, PA Senator; and Alex Epstein, author of the book, “The Moral Case for Fossil Fuels” (great book, Jim has read it).     Visit MDN at Shale Insight in Pittsburgh Next Week

    Shale InsightBy our reckoning, the 2016 Shale Insight event being held in Pittsburgh next week (Sept. 21-22) will be MDN editor Jim Willis’ fifth consecutive Shale Insight event. In past years Jim has hung out at the NGI (Natural Gas Intelligence) booth. This year Jim and Marcellus Drilling News will have their own booth: #208 (near the entrance). Jim invites MDN readers who are attending to stop by and say hello! Jim will bribe passersby with free candy, so stop by and grab a piece! What’s that?   • MDN Short Vacation for 2 Days – Off Tuesday & Wednesday

    gone fishingMarcellus Drilling News doesn’t take a lot of vacation, but we try to take at least a few days in the summer and near the Christmas holiday. MDN will be off for the next two days–Tuesday and Wednesday. We’ll return on Thursday with all the Marcellus/Utica news that’s fit to print!

  • MDN Update from the Road – Full Strength MDN Returns Tomorrow

    coffeeEvery now and again MDN editor Jim Willis emerges from his writing cave in Binghamton, NY to travel. Such is the case this week. Normally you (hopefully) wouldn’t know that Jim is on the road as he does his best to keep the news coming. Today, however, is different. There will be no new stories posted today. For the past two days Jim attended the excellent “Analyst Training in the Power and Gas Sectors,” hosted by S&P Global Market Intelligence (formerly SNL KnowledgeCenter), in New York City. NYC is Jim’s favorite large city in the world. 🙂 Jim was there to improve his education on how the natural gas and electricity markets fit together–an increasingly important part of the “drilling” story in the Marcellus/Utica. And what an education it was! Jim remains on the road for the balance of the week, visiting the good folks of NGI (Natural Gas Intelligence) in the Washington, DC area. Between the seminar and traveling to DC (and not sleeping so well in hotel rooms), Jim couldn’t quite swing posting stories today. This is a RARE occurrence. A “no story day” has happened perhaps once or twice in the past 5+ years we’ve had paying subscribers. Our apologies in advance! What it means is that you will have 100% full strength, amped up, aromatic Marcellus/Utica news again beginning tomorrow. Jim is already working on some big stories. Stay tuned!

  • Top 10 Most-Read MDN Stories from Jan-Jun 2016

    top10.jpgMDN is pleased to announce a regular feature on Scranton radio station 94.3 FM “The Talker.” Each Saturday the station airs the Shale Gas News show, co-hosted by MDN friend Bill desRosiers (of Cabot Oil & Gas). Bill recently asked Jim to supply a weekly segment recounting the top stories read on MDN. That is, MDN is becoming the official news source for Shale Gas News! To kick things off, Jim compiled a list of the Top 10 most read stories on MDN for the first six months of 2016. It’s an interesting list, as you’ll see. It may or may not surprise you to learn that 4 of the top 10 stories relate to Shell’s planned ethane cracker plant, a $3 billion+ project that will create thousands of jobs and inject something like $20 billion in the state’s economy.
