5 Key Insights from MDN’s 2015 Databook Vol. 3 – Just Released
MDN recently published Volume 3 of the 2015 Marcellus and Utica Shale Databook. In 103 jam-packed pages you will get the latest information on what’s happening (or not happening) with drilling in the Marcellus/Utica region. Much of the Databook is a series of county maps–one map for each county where there’s permit activity for Marcellus or Utica drilling. Each county map shows a dot for where a permit was issued–along with the name of the driller next to it. The maps also show major natural gas pipelines and compressor stations. Each map offers you a quick, visual way of understanding where drilling is happening, and who’s doing the drilling.For this new edition, MDN editor Jim Willis spent several weeks compiling and completely revising a directory of frack waste facilities, including the addition of hundreds of injection wells. Top 10 Most-Read MDN Stories of 2015
Thank you for an awesome 2015 at the Marcellus Drilling News blog/news site. You, our dear readers, made it a terrific year. Truth to tell we lost a few subscribers overall in 2015 due to the severe downturn in the drilling marketplace. Some people who work in the industry lost their jobs and did not re-subscribe. Some landowners moved away or otherwise gave up hope that they will see drilling any time soon. But you know, we can’t complain. Many (many!) of you hung in there with MDN for another year. Editor Jim Willis pledges that 2016 will see some much-needed improvements with the design of the site, essentially unchanged since we began it in 2009, and with new product offerings. Stay tuned! In the meantime, we’d like to reflect back on 2015. Everyone else, it seems, has run a “top 10” article list for 2015, so why don’t we? Below are the top 10 most-read stories of 2015 on the MDN web site. But first, a few raw numbers. In 2015 the MDN site received 785,120 “user sessions” (or visits) made by 388,239 different, unique people. Those people viewed 1,496,910 pages on the site, almost all of those pages being articles. Not too shabby if you ask us–that a niche publication like MDN garners more than one-third of a million people viewing 1.5 million pages of content. Happy New Year! MDN Off Until Jan. 4; Our 2016 Prayer 4U
MDN will not publish on Dec. 31 or Jan. 1. We will be back on Monday, Jan. 4. MDN’s prayer for you in 2016 is this:May all of your land get leased (for obscenely high signing bonuses and royalty rates); may all of your drilling units get drilled on; may drilling rigs pop up like spring crocuses, providing jobs and new royalty income; may new pipelines pop up like summer dandelions, connecting hundreds and thousands of new wells; may all of those pipelines be filled to capacity; may the price of natural gas double in the New Year; may at least one ethane cracker plant receive a Final Investment Decision; and may 2016 be the safest year ever–with no fatalities in the oil & gas patch. Amen.
