Counting Frac Spreads Shows Drilling has Reached a Fevered Pace

Two years ago this month MDN told you about "frac spreads"--what they are and why counting frac spreads is a more reliable measure of future production than just counting rigs (see Frac Spreads – What They Are and What They Portend for 2020). A frac spread is a combination of fracturing pumps (also referred to as frac pumpers and/or pumping units), data trucks, storage tanks, chemical additive and hydration units, blenders, and other equipment needed to perform a frac stimulation of a well. What do the latest frac spread numbers tell us?
