crater created by pipeline rupture
On September 12, the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) was alerted to a pipeline rupture near a Berkshire Hathaway Eastern Gas Transmission & Storage natural gas injection well in Wharton Township, Fayette County (southwestern corner of the state). The incident occurred at the North Summit Gas Storage Area, approximately 150 feet from the R.E. Eberly UW-204 wellhead, within the boundaries of Forbes State Forest. The rupture resulted in the release of natural gas and brine, creating a crater down to the exposed and ruptured pipe.
