Southeast Connector Update: 20 Shippers, 48-Inch Pipe, Room to Grow

| | |
Two weeks ago, MDN told you Kinder Morgan had made a final investment decision (FID) to build the Southeast Connector, a 2.6 Bcf/d (billion cubic feet per day) pipeline designed to carry Marcellus/Utica gas into the Southeast (see Kinder Morgan Greenlights $3.1B Pipe to Flow M-U Gas to Southeast). Now it looks like the straw may be getting bigger. RBN Energy reports that Kinder's electronic bulletin board shows shipper awards for an additional 1.1 Bcf/d, which would take the project to as much as 3.7 Bcf/d. Natural Gas Intelligence (NGI) reports Kinder awarded 1.12 million Dth/d (dekatherms per day, roughly 1.12 Bcf/d) of firm capacity to 20 bidders. We've also learned the pipe will be a whopping 48 inches in diameter, and that Kinder is planning an "Extension" to hand gas off to Transco and other pipelines in Tennessee, Alabama, and Georgia.
