A professor and inventor at Marietta College, along with two other inventors, have received U.S. patents for two procedures that increase oil and natural gas recovery from shale reservoirs and sandstone reservoirs. Optimized Zipper Frac increases hydrocarbon recovery from shale plays by using "ballooned fractures to create stress shadows that minimize stress anisotropy and thereby maximize near-wellbore complexity and production rate." Er, right. Did you understand that? No, we didn't either.
