Epsilon issued its fourth quarter and full-year 2021 update last week. The company’s Marcellus net gas production was 2.6 Bcf (billion cubic feet) in 4Q21. The company generated revenues of $13.8 million during 4Q21, compared to $5.9 million for 4Q20. Realized natural gas prices averaged $3.65/Mcf including hedges, and $4.36/Mcf excluding hedges.

Epsilon 3Q: Production Falls, Revenue Doubles, Lawsuit Continues

Epsilon Energy concentrates most of its effort on the Marcellus in Susquehanna County, PA. Epsilon doesn’t typically do its own drilling. The company joint venture partners with (gives money to) other companies, like Chesapeake Energy, and the other company typically does the drilling. Epsilon issued its third quarter update on Wednesday. The company’s Marcellus net gas production was 2.6 Bcf (billion cubic feet) in total for 3Q21, compared to 3.0 Bcf of net gas production in 3Q20 (a 13% decrease). However, revenues were $13.1 million in 3Q21, compared to $5.8 million in 3Q20 (more than doubled). Epsilon issued its second quarter update last Thursday. The company’s Marcellus net gas production averaged 27.6 million cubic feet per day (MMcf/d) in 2Q21, compared to 30.6 MMcf/d of net gas production in 2Q20 (a 10% decrease). However, revenues were $7.1 million in 2Q21, compared to $6.3 million in 2Q20 (a 13% increase).

However, revenues were up a big 31% in 1Q21 vs. 1Q20.

TX Judge Allows Epsilon to File New Lawsuit Against Chesapeake in PA

Last week MDN told you that Epsilon Energy, which concentrates most of its effort on the Marcellus in Susquehanna County, PA, had sued its joint venture partner Chesapeake Energy over Chessy’s refusal to allow Epsilon to drill four shale wells on land Chessy doesn’t want to drill (see Epsilon Sues Chesapeake to Drill 4 Marcellus Wells, Court Overrules). We also told you the Texas bankruptcy judge that presided over Chesapeake’s recent Chapter 11 case ordered Epsilon to drop its lawsuit. The Texas judge has since modified his position.

Epsilon sued Chesapeake Energy earlier this month over lack of access to drill wells on acreage Chesapeake says it doesn’t want to drill. A Texas bankruptcy court judge has tossed Epsilon’s lawsuit. Looks like bankruptcy is a “get out of your contracts for free” card for Chesapeake.

Last week Pennsylvania issued 21 new shale well drilling permits scattered across both northeast and southwest PA. Ohio issued 5 new shale well permits, all of them to the same company and the same well pad. West Virginia issued 3 new shale well permits, all in different counties.

Epsilon Energy Buys Back 2.3M Shares of Common Stock

The company partners with (gives money to) other companies, like Chesapeake Energy, and the other companies do the actual drilling. Epsilon, according to its website, owns ~4,000 net acres in the PA Marcellus. They also own assets in Oklahoma’s Anadarko Basin. In May Epsilon offered to buy back up to 2 million shares of common stock from stockholders (see Epsilon Energy Offers to Buy Back 2M Shares of Common Stock). The company ended up buying back 2.3 million shares.
