30 New Shale Well Permits Reported for PA-OH-WV May 25 – 31
The Marcellus/Utica region received 30 new drilling permits last week, May 25 – 31, up from 15 permits issued two weeks ago. However, not all 30 permits reported last week were issued last week. Ohio, which is occasionally tardy in updating its public reports, included permits in last week’s report that should have been included in the previous week’s report. Last week, Pennsylvania issued 8 permits. Ohio issued 17 new permits, of which 9 were from last week, and 8 were from the week before but not reported until last week. There were 28 permits issued to drill new shale wells in Marcellus/Utica for the week of Sept. 23 – 29, down slightly from the 32 issued the prior week. The Keystone State (PA) had 15 new permits, with seven of them going to Range Resources, most of them in Washington County. Three permits were issued to Chesapeake Energy in Bradford County, and two permits were issued to Southwestern Energy in Susquehanna County. Just two of the three M-U states received permits to drill new shale wells last week. Pennsylvania received only 3 new permits for two drillers. One of the two is a completely new company for us! Ohio received 0 new permits last week. And West Virginia received 7 new permits, all for the same company in the same county on the same well pad as all of the permits issued two weeks ago.
