MDN editor Jim Willis isn’t much into tooting his own horn. But, well, this is kind of slow news day, so we’ll toot. Marcellus Drilling News began as a hobby and side project in January 2009. Little did Jim know that it would grow to become his full-time job and in April 2020, the blog/news site would surpass having 20,000 posts. That milestone was reached last week.

MDN Editor Jim Willis had the pleasure of being interviewed on The Crude Life podcast last week. Jason Spiess, an award-winning multimedia journalist, hosts several radio shows in addition to the podcast. The podcast/radio shows focus mainly on the Bakken Shale (where Jason lives and works), but he also branches out to talk with those in other plays. This isn’t Jim’s first time appearing on The Crude Life (see MDN Editor Jim Willis Interviewed on “The Crude Life” Podcast). Last week Jim talked with Jason about the 1-2 punch of the supply shock and demand shock on the marketplace–from the coronavirus to Russia to Saudi Arabia to OPEC. The interview discusses whether pipelines are considered essential or not with states shutting down worksites and offices.

Believe it or not, today is a New York Stock Exchange holiday (i.e. bank) holiday. MDN rarely takes a day off, so we tend to track with those holidays observed by the NYSE. Last Thursday MDN editor Jim Willis had the pleasure of pre-recording an appearance on the radio program Shale Gas News, co-hosted by Jim’s friend Bill desRosiers (from Cabot Oil & Gas). We wish you a Merry Christmas..and a Happy New Year! MDN will take off (i.e. no new stories posted) between Dec. 24 and New Year’s Day in observance of the holiday season. Don’t worry, we’ll still keep an eye on the news and if anything earth-shattering happens, we’ll post about it. However, our intent is to take a break from writing for an entire week. We will see you again on Thursday, January 2nd.

Thank you for your patience while we navigated through web server hell this week. The MDN website was finally reactivated yesterday on its new server (computer). But then, as soon as that happened, MDN’s email account went offline due to some technical explanation we don’t fully understand, having to do with domain name servers and such. So if you sent MDN (or editor Jim Willis) an email yesterday afternoon/evening, he may not have received it. Feel free to re-send any messages you sent yesterday.

MDN will not publish today, Veteran’s Day. We thank our veterans for their service and sacrifice.
A quick update on the website: There may still be a few bumps as we are in the process of migrating the entire site to a new hosting plan that gives us a faster server with more space. Please bear with us. We will let you know when that process is complete. Also, MDN editor Jim Willis will attend the MidStream PA 2019 event in State College on Tuesday. We’ll bring you news from the event as the week progresses.
Thank you to MDN subscribers and readers yesterday who had to endure MDN website outages. Believe me, it was frustrating for me too! A quick update on the site moving forward, and what I’ve done to (hopefully) ensure what happened yesterday does not happen again.

MDN is not able to post today–please accept our apologies. A friend of the family suddenly and unexpectedly died earlier this week and the funeral is this morning. We pride ourselves on publishing each weekday with very few days off. This is a rare exception. We will be back Monday with all the latest news. In the meantime, we’ve published the latest version of our Calendar of Events of interest.
MDN had intended to take today (Friday) off in addition to Monday’s Labor Day holiday. Sneaking in a last bit of time off for the summer. And then we spotted the BIG NEWS about the Constitution Pipeline decision from FERC. So we wrote up a post about that. This is truly big (and very good) news!
