Sunoco Buys Out 2 Homes Near Chester County ME2 Sinkholes

In the end, it was the right thing to do. Word has leaked out and is now being trumpeted by anti-pipeline “news” outlets (like PBS’ StateImpact Pennsylvania) that Sunoco (i.e. Energy Transfer) has purchased the homes of two homeowners who live near Mariner East 2 pipeline construction–both homes located near sinkholes related to pipeline construction. Sunoco paid each homeowner $60,000-$100,000 more than fair market value.

Huge Sinkhole Forms Near ME2 Pipe in Delaware County, PA

Credit: Philadelphia Inquirer (click for larger version)

Our lead story yesterday was the rumor there has been another sinkhole open up in Delaware County, PA near an existing (old) pipeline temporarily being used as part of the Mariner East 2 (ME2) NGL pipeline system (see PUC Investigates ME2 Bypass Pipe in Delaware Co. for New Sinkhole). Indeed there was. Officials report a 12 foot by 12 foot sinkhole in the right-of-way for several Sunoco-owned pipelines. The good news is that no bare pipe was exposed, the hole has already been filled, and ethane/propane continue to flow through ME2.

PUC Won’t Let ME2 Work Restart in Chester Co. Due to Court Case

Yesterday the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) voted 5-0 to deny Sunoco Logistics Partners permission to restart construction of Mariner East 2 pipeline in West Whiteland Township in Chester County. Why? Because construction at that location (Shoen Road), along with three other locations, is currently under review in Commonwealth Court. In other words, for the time being (until the court rules), the PUC’s hands are tied.

PUC Investigates ME2 Bypass Pipe in Delaware Co. for New Sinkhole

Credit: Philadelphia Inquirer (click for larger version)

The Mariner East 1 (ME1) natural gas liquids pipeline that flows ethane and propane came back online Monday (see Mariner East 1 NGL Pipe Restarts Today After Shutdown Since Jan.). It had been out of service for more than three months because a sinkhole exposed a few feet of bare pipe near Philadelphia. Good thing ME1 is back, because yesterday the Pennsylvania Public Service Utility (PUC) announced an investigation into a potential new sinkhole near a section of pipeline used for the Mariner East 2 pipeline in Delaware County.

Mariner East 1 NGL Pipe Restarts Today After Shutdown Since Jan.

Since January 20, all of Sunoco Logistics’ Mariner East 1 (ME1) pipeline has been shut down on the orders of the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (see All of Mariner East 1 NGL Pipe Shut Down Indefinitely by PA PUC). As of today, just over three full months later, the PUC is finally allowing ME1 to restart service, after agreeing to a number of “safety” measures.

Chester County, PA Sues ME2 Pipe, Seeks to Block Construction

The sleazy elected commissioners of Chester County have just sued Sunoco Logistics Partners to try and stop construction of the Mariner East 2 Pipeline on two county-owned properties where the pipeline has a legitimate, legal right to build. One of the commissioners actually uses these lawsuits as fundraisers (see Chester County Commissioner Uses Pipeline Lawsuit as Fundraiser). Yeah, that’s sleazy.

British Tabloid Smear Job on Mariner East Pipe Targets Gov. Wolf

We’re in the unusual position of defending Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf, arguably the worst governor PA has had in a generation. But defend him (and his staff) we must, because the Wolf Administration is the object of a false and disgusting smear campaign by a prominent London tabloid called The Guardian.

Sunoco, DEP Settle on $200K Fine for ME1 Pipe Leak in 2017

The Mariner East 1 pipeline sprung a small leak and spilled 20 barrels (~840 gallons) of ethane and propane in Berks County, near Philadelphia, on April 1, 2017 (see Mariner East 1 Sprang a Small NGL Leak Near Philly, on Apr 1). Sunoco Logistics Partners (i.e. Energy Transfer), builder and maintainer of the pipeline, shut it down and fixed it over the next several days. It took the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC), which oversees regulation of the pipeline, a year and a half to investigate.

Living with ME2 Pipeline Construction in Your Back Yard

We spotted a story about landowners in the Philadelphia suburbs who currently have to live with construction of the Mariner East 2 pipelines (plural, there are two of them, ME2 and ME2X), literally happening in their back yards. While we are strong supporters of the ME2 project, we are not unsympathetic to landowners and the hassles they have to endure while it’s being built.

ME2 Pipe Construction Thru Girl’s Softball Field – How Dare They!

You can “hear” the indignation in the Philadelphia Inquirer article. Mariner East 2 (ME2) Pipeline, which (according to antis) shouldn’t be allowed to continue their construction activities, is not only continuing said activities in Chester County, PA, ME2 is going to put a pipeline right through the middle of a (gasp) girl’s softball field! When the season is just about to begin. HOW DARE THEY?!

Shameful PA Lawmakers Rally to Shut Down Safely Operating ME Pipes

China’s Chairman Mao – patron saint of antis

Yesterday was a sad day in Harrisburg, PA. A group of virulent anti-fossil fuelers (maybe 200 or so) attended a staged rally where several shameful members of the state legislature, including Andy “Tony Soprano” Dinniman, and Tom “token RINO” Killion advocated shutting down the legal, legitimate, fully functioning and safely operating set of pipelines known as Mariner East 1 & 2–just to pander to their kook voting base. A counter-rally was held by Republican legislators (i.e. adults) who support the Mariner East pipelines.

PA AG Shapiro Colludes w/Delaware County DA to Investigate ME Pipe

Ever notice how predators like to hunt in packs? First the Chester County, PA District Attorney launched an ethically questionable “investigation” into “crimes” that may have been committed by building the Mariner East pipelines through his county (see Chester County DA Goes Rogue, Targets ME2 Pipe w/Criminal Probe). The Chester DA recently impaneled a grand jury to hear fake allegations against Energy Transfer and Sunoco Logistics Partners (see Politically Motivated Investigation of ME Pipe Convenes Grand Jury).

Politically Motivated Investigation of ME Pipe Convenes Grand Jury

Tom Hogan

RINO Tom Hogan, District Attorney for Chester County, PA, launched a criminal probe into the Mariner East Pipeline projects (1 and 2) last December (see Chester County DA Goes Rogue, Targets ME2 Pipe w/Criminal Probe). The probe smacks not of justice but of politics–as in Hogan seeking higher office.

Chester County Commissioner Uses Pipeline Lawsuit as Fundraiser

This is super sleazy. You might want to put on a rain slicker to keep the crap from sticking to you as you read it. Last week Chester County, PA commissioners asked to join a lawsuit against Sunoco’s Mariner East pipeline projects. The commissioners also voted to end easements allowing Sunoco access to the pipeline as it runs through county property, access needed so they could do work on it.

ME2 Pipe Restarts Drilling in Chester Co. – Stalled Since July 2017

Energy Transfer and their Sunoco Logistics Partners unit are about to restart underground horizontal directional drilling (HDD) work for the Mariner East 2 (ME2) pipeline in West Whiteland Township (Chester County), PA–work that has been on pause since July 2017. Yet ME2 actually went online in December (see Sunoco LP’s Mariner East 2 NGL Pipeline Now Online!). Question: How can ME2 be online when not all of the work is yet done?!
