Full List of ARCH2 Hydrogen Hub Projects by Name, State, and Type

    October 27, 2023October 27, 2023

We finally have a list of the 15 proposed projects that are part of the the West Virginia-led Appalachian Regional Clean Hydrogen Hub (ARCH2) project. Earlier this week, officials with the Dept. of Energy Office of Clean Energy Demonstrations (OCED) and Battelle, the technology lab headquartered in Columbus Ohio that is quarterbacking the ARCH2 project, held an online briefing about ARCH2 (see More (but Still Sparse) Details Begin to Emerge for ARCH2 Projects). Those attending the online session were able to grab a share a few details, but now MDN has the full slide deck used during the briefing, which lists (and names) all 15 proposed ARCH2 projects, with details about what those projects are and who is sponsoring them. Let’s name names!

PA DEP Sec. Negrin Resigning Dec. 8 – On Medical Leave Until Then

    October 27, 2023October 27, 2023
    Rich Negrin

An abrupt turn of events. Pennsylvania Secretary of the Dept. of Environmental Protection, Rich Negrin, has resigned his post, or rather, he will resign. He “pre-resigned” — handing in his notice that he will officially resign as of Dec. 9. But until then, for the next six weeks (effective immediately), Negrin is on medical leave. Which means he can draw his full salary over the next six weeks even though he is effectively gone from the position. In his place, Jessica Shirley, who was named Deputy Secretary of the DEP earlier this year, will become the Acting Secretary until a permanent replacement is named.

Murrysville, PA Seeks Bids to Drill Under Two Municipal Parks

    October 27, 2023October 27, 2023

Sometime in the next few months, Murrysville (PA) Council members will make a decision about leasing land for shale drilling under Duff Park (234 acres) and Murrysville Community Park (305 acres). Murrysville is located in Westmoreland County in the southwestern part of the state. Olympus Energy is interested and has pitched proposals to lease under both parks, using their adjacent leased acreage (on private land) to set up rigs to drill under the parks. However, Murrysville Solicitor Wes Long advised council members to seek bids from other companies as well. What did Olympus offer for a signing bonus and royalties? We have the numbers.

    October 27, 2023October 27, 2023

EQT Corporation, currently the largest producer of natural gas in the U.S., provided its third quarter update yesterday. And wow! There is plenty to talk about. The company set another drilling world record of 18,264 feet in 48 hours, beating the existing world record set by EQT in the second quarter (see EQT Sets World Drilling Record; Tug Hill Deal to Close Next 30 Days). CEO Toby Rice announced the company recently signed two long-term deals with natural gas customers who will buy EQT’s molecules from the Mountain Valley Pipeline (MVP) when it gets completed. The two deals collectively add up to 1.2 Bcf/d heading to the southeastern U.S.

Oil & Gas Industry LOVES New House Speaker Mike Johnson – We Do Too

    October 27, 2023October 27, 2023
Mike Johnson – Speaker of the House

While the newly elected Speaker of U.S. House of Representatives, Mike Johnson (from Louisiana), is relatively unknown to the oil and gas industry, the industry likes what it sees in Johnson. We do, too. Did you catch Johnson’s first media interview since winning the Speakership? It was a live interview last night with Sean Hannity on Fox News (watch it below). What an interview! While he didn’t speak much about oil and gas issues, it was clear from his responses that he is favorable to the fossil fuel industry. It was also clear he’s a true-blue conservative and has his head screwed on right.
