Antis Try to Smear MVP with Misleading “Second Water Rupture” Story

    June 26, 2024June 26, 2024

We previously reported that a section of the 303-mile Mountain Valley Pipeline (MVP) in Roanoke County, Virginia, ruptured during a water test in early May (see Section of MVP Ruptures Near Roanoke Under Water Pressure Test). Pressure testing is done using water before a new natgas pipeline is brought online. Water is pumped through the pipeline at pressures far exceeding what the pipeline is rated for. Equitrans, the builder, replaced the ruptured section of pipe and tested it again before bringing the system online. Imagine our surprise and disappointment to learn from mainstream media there was a second rupture before the pipeline came online. Except, there wasn’t. But you wouldn’t know that from the headlines of the stories circulating yesterday and today.

PA DEP to Host Virtual Hearing for Lycoming County Gathering Pipe

    June 26, 2024June 26, 2024

Last week, MDN told you that two Big Green groups in Pennsylvania, Trout Unlimited and the Mid State Trail Association, are attempting to block a project by Pennsylvania General Energy (PGE) to install a tiny 3.7-mile gathering pipeline to connect several PGE wells to the Transco pipeline system, along with two 8-inch water pipelines of about the same length, in Lycoming County (see Lycoming County Gathering Pipe in the Crosshairs of Anti Groups). The aim is to block the pipelines from being built (and consequently block shale wells from being drilled) on state-owned land by forcing a longer, much more expensive route. The groups and their minions made enough noise that the PA Dept. of Environmental Protection (DEP) is going to hold a virtual hearing on the plan on July 2 at 6 p.m.

Republicans Say PA Gov. Shapiro’s Proposed Carbon Tax is Dead

    June 26, 2024June 26, 2024

In March, Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro traveled to Scranton, PA, to announce a proposal to “immediately pull Pennsylvania out of a multi-state carbon cap-and-trade program” (the so-called Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative, or RGGI) and instead enroll PA in its very own RGGI-like carbon tax program (see PA Gov. Shapiro Proposes Own Version of Marcellus-Killing Carbon Tax). Same end result: It would kill Marcellus-fired power plants in the state, forcing them to close and relocate to West Virginia and Ohio, states that don’t engage in the lunacy of taxing carbon emissions from power plants. Here’s a spot of good news: With less than a week before the June 30 budget deadline, Republican sources tell the Delaware Valley Journal there are no plans for hearings or votes on Shapiro’s crazy carbon tax plan. Whew. We dodged another bullet.

EQT 2023 ESG Report Titled “Unlimited Potential” Touts NatGas

    June 26, 2024June 26, 2024

EQT Corporation continues to be the #1 highest-producing natural gas driller in the U.S. — at least for now, until Chesapeake Energy merges with Southwestern Energy to eclipse EQT as the #1 driller. But for now, it’s EQT. Yesterday, EQT released its 2023 Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) report, titled “Unlimited Potential.” Among the noteworthy achievements from 2023, EQT reduced its so-called Scope 1 methane emissions intensity to barely detectable levels. EQT remains on track to achieve mythical “net zero” Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions (methane and carbon dioxide) by 2025.

Only 2 Mass. GOP Senators Voted Against Bill that Destroys NatGas

    June 26, 2024June 26, 2024

Yesterday, the Massachusetts State Senate voted to have the state jump into the energy abyss. They voted in favor of blackouts and brownouts by banning the use of natural gas — coming in the next five years. It boggles the mind. Their vote (if confirmed by the House, which is a given) will destroy thousands of jobs related to the natural gas industry in the Bay State. You know, we don’t feel a bit sorry for the people living in Massachusetts for the energy Armageddon they are about to experience. Of note, there were two patriots who voted against this insanity: Republican Sens. Peter Durant of Spencer and Ryan “Paul Revere” Fattman of Sutton.

LibDem NGO Files Complaint Against Trump for Mtg with Big Oil

    June 26, 2024June 26, 2024

As we reported in May, former President Donald J. Trump met with oil and gas industry members in April at his Mar-a-Lago estate (see Trump Promises to Undo Biden Regs if O&G Raises $1B for Campaign). According to snitches at the event, after one of the O&G big whigs complained about Biden’s constant attacks on the fossil fuel industry, DJT made them all a deal: Raise $1 billion for his reelection campaign and on “Day One” of a new term, he will set about fixing the damage done by Biden to the industry. Which sounds like a good deal to us! We predicted desperate Bidenistas would try to make a big deal out of it. And they are…
