Radicals Sue NY, NJ to Block NESE Pipeline Water Permits

    November 19, 2025November 19, 2025

In May, pipeline giant Williams filed a request with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) to expedite the reissuance of a certificate for the Northeast Supply Enhancement (NESE) project, a $1 billion+ project designed to increase Transco pipeline capacity and flows of Marcellus gas heading into New York City and other northeastern markets (see Williams Files Request Asking FERC to Reissue NESE Cert in NY, NJ). In late August, FERC did just that (see FERC Reissues NESE Pipeline Project Certificate for NY, NJ). Two weeks ago, the states of New York and New Jersey issued federal Clean Water Act permits for their respective states, allowing NESE to be built (see Trump Won: New York & New Jersey Issue Water Permits for NESE Pipe). Radical anti-fossil fuel groups are now suing FERC and environmental agencies in New York and New Jersey to block the project. PA Promises to Keep the Lights on for Its Neighbors Post-RGGI

    November 19, 2025November 19, 2025

Last week, the Pennsylvania legislature drove the final nail in the coffin of the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI) carbon tax in the state (see VICTORY! PA Budget Deal Kills RGGI Carbon Tax for Good). Dumping RGGI frees up a growing list of gas-fired power plants to begin construction in the Keystone State. In a post-mortem analysis of the attempt to force RGGI on the state, the Marcellus Shale Coalition (MSC) says that RGGI is primarily a tax revenue generator that serves as a barrier to investment and an unconstitutional regulatory tax. MSC cites a state study that projected a net reduction of only 0.169% in carbon emissions over eight years. Furthermore, the MSC highlights that RGGI would have cost Pennsylvania ratepayers approximately $1.558 billion a year. It was nothing more than a money grab to pad the pockets of Big Green donors. Talen Energy Gets Fed OK to Buy 2 M-U Gas-Powered Plants in PA, OH

    November 19, 2025November 19, 2025

In July, MDN told you that Talen Energy, a leading energy producer in the U.S., which owns and operates approximately 10.7 gigawatts (GW) of power infrastructure, had announced the acquisition of two gas-fired power plants: one located near Wilkes-Barre in northeastern Pennsylvania, and the other in Guernsey County, in eastern Ohio (see Talen Energy Buys 2 M-U Gas-Powered Plants in PA, OH for $3.8B). These types of transactions require approval from the federal government. Yesterday, Talen announced that both FERC (Federal Energy Regulatory Commission) and the DOJ (U.S. Department of Justice) have approved the transaction. More Evidence that PA’s Anti-Frackers are Now Anti-Data Center

    November 19, 2025November 19, 2025

Last week, MDN warned you that the enviro-left that opposes fracking and shale energy in Pennsylvania (because they have an irrational hatred of fossil fuels) has morphed into opposing data centers, because data centers need lots of electricity and the only practical way of providing that power is via natural gas-fired power plants (see Anti-Fossil Fuel Groups Like Protect PT Morph to Anti-Data Center). We noticed that Protect PT in western PA had succumbed to anti-data centerism. Today, we have more examples of PA-based anti-shale groups that are now anti-data center. Bridger Expands Capabilities to Level 4 & 5 Methane Reporting

    November 19, 2025November 19, 2025

Bridger Photonics, the self-proclaimed “industry leader in methane emissions data,” announced expanded capabilities that enable both source-level (Level 4) and site-level (Level 5) methane measurement under the UN’s OGMP 2.0 framework. Bridger is headquartered in Montana and has developed a methane detection technology that is used by some of the biggest drillers in the Marcellus/Utica, including EQT, Expand Energy, Ascent Resources, Diversified Energy, and Repsol (see our Bridger stories here). Bridger’s laser methane-detecting technology is called Gas Mapping LiDAR™ (laser imaging, detection, and ranging). It was developed to simplify the detection and visualization of methane emissions across the oil and gas industry. Read More “Bridger Expands Capabilities to Level 4 & 5 Methane Reporting”

Trump EPA Proposes Common Sense Definition for Waters of the U.S.

    November 19, 2025November 19, 2025

Finally! For years, going back to the administration of Lord Obama, the radical left has tried to redefine the “waters of the United States” (WOTUS). See our extensive list of posts covering the WOTUS issue and how President Obama and later President Autopen tried to butcher the meaning of WOTUS to include everything down to mud puddles. On Monday, the Trump EPA and the Army Corps of Engineers announced a proposed new rule to establish a clear and durable definition of WOTUS under the Clean Water Act. The proposal, unveiled by EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin and Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works Adam Telle, aims to protect water resources while accelerating economic growth by providing regulatory certainty for farmers, landowners, and businesses. WOTUS has a significant impact on the oil and gas industry. In typical fashion, the enviro-left is stroking out about the change, claiming it will lead to the pollution of everything. ‘Weird and Wonderful’ Wells Boosting Oil & Gas Production in Canada

    November 19, 2025November 19, 2025
    Frankenwells (credit: Canadian Energy Center)

This story is technically not about the Marcellus/Utica, but it could be. It comes from our neighborly neighbors (not!) to the north in Canada. Our Canadian compatriots in the oil and gas world have discovered a “weird and wonderful” drilling innovation in Alberta that is helping producers tap more oil and gas at lower cost and with less environmental impact. The Canucks are drilling wells in configurations with names like fishbone, fan, comb-over, and stingray. These “multilateral” wells turn a single wellbore from the surface into multiple horizontal legs underground. Cool. Read More “‘Weird and Wonderful’ Wells Boosting Oil & Gas Production in Canada”
