Buckeye Partners Buys Bear Head LNG Project in Nova Scotia

An interesting development for an LNG export project in Canada we’ve tracked for years. Bear Head Energy, Inc., the current owner of Bear Head LNG in Nova Scotia, is being sold to Houston-based Buckeye Partners for an undisclosed sum. Buckeye is a portfolio company of, wholly owned by, IFM Global Infrastructure Fund (based in Australia). The former owner of the Bear Head LNG project, LNG Limited, was also based in Australia before it went belly up. Buckeye is a serious company with serious assets in the U.S. and has declared its intent to develop the fully-permitted Bear Head project forthwith. Maybe Canada’s East Coast will get an LNG export facility after all!

Buckeye’s MI/OH Pipeline Open Season a Success, Project Advances

West to East Project Map

In September MDN told you that Buckeye Partners, a publicly traded master limited partnership (MLP) that owns and operates 6,000 miles of pipeline, had launched an open season for a second round of expansion on the Michigan/Ohio refined products pipeline (see Buckeye Partners Expanding MI/OH Refined Products Pipeline, Again). “Refined petroleum products” are things like gasoline, kerosene and heating oil. The pipeline runs from Woodhaven and Detroit, Michigan, and from Toledo and Lima, Ohio, to destination points in both Ohio and Western Pennsylvania. We track this project and others like it because it’s quite possible some of the oil that gets refined into gas and heating fuel flowing through this pipeline comes from the Marcellus/Utica. Good news: the open season for the second expansion was successful and Buckeye plans to move forward with the project, which should be completed by the end of 2018…

Buckeye Partners Expanding MI/OH Refined Products Pipeline, Again

West to East Project Map
West to East Project Map – click for larger version

Buckeye Partners is a publicly traded master limited partnership (MLP) that owns and operates 6,000 miles of pipeline. One of those pipelines is the Michigan/Ohio refined products pipeline, which we reported on in April 2015 (see Buckeye Partners Expanding MI/OH Refined Products Pipeline East). At that time Buckeye was pushing its Michigan/Ohio Pipeline Expansion Project to expand the pipeline for “refined petroleum products” (things like gasoline, kerosene and heating oil) to run it from Woodhaven and Detroit, Michigan, and from Toledo and Lima, Ohio, to destination points in both Ohio and Western Pennsylvania. By all accounts the initial expansion was a success, because Buckeye is now conducting an open season for the second phase of the expansion project. Why talk about a gasoline/heating oil pipeline? Because it’s possible that some of the oil that gets refined into gas and heating fuel flowing through this pipeline comes from the Marcellus/Utica…

Utica/Marcellus Condensate Now Being Exported via Ship from NJ

bon voyageDon’t look now but Utica/Marcellus condensate being produced at a MarkWest Energy processing plant in Cadiz, OH is being exported out of the country via a ship docked on the Hudson River at Perth Amboy, New Jersey–just across the river from Manhattan! The condensate is transported to NJ via railroad in specially designed rail cars. A second ship is being loaded up and will leave with Utica/Marcellus condensate from MarkWest, according to the Reuters story below. The first ship loaded with condensate left Perth Amboy one month ago heading to the Netherlands. No word yet on where the second load is heading, but sources say exporting condensate from Perth Amboy is now set up to become a routine thing, which is fantastic news for drillers in Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia that produce condensate…

Customers Sign on Dotted Line for MI/OH Refined Products Pipeline

sign on dotted lineIn April MDN reported on a successful open season (time when new customers sign up) for the Michigan/Ohio Pipeline Expansion Project–a pipeline expansion project that will deliver “refined petroleum products” (things like gasoline, kerosene and heating oil) from Woodhaven and Detroit, Michigan, and from Toledo and Lima, Ohio, to destination points in both Ohio and Western Pennsylvania (see Buckeye Partners Expanding MI/OH Refined Products Pipeline East). Buckeye Partners, the owner of the pipeline, has just reported “we got everyone who raised their hand, to now sign on the dotted line”–something called the execution of a transportation service agreement…

Buckeye Partners Expanding MI/OH Refined Products Pipeline East

Buckeye Partners, headquartered not in Ohio but in Houston, TX, launched an open season for an expansion of a pipeline that we somehow missed, on January 30. Called the Michigan/Ohio Pipeline Expansion Project, the expanded pipeline project is for flowing “refined petroleum products” (things like gasoline, kerosene and heating oil) and will run from Woodhaven and Detroit, Michigan, and from Toledo and Lima, Ohio, to destination points in both Ohio and Western Pennsylvania. Buckeye reports the open season is now closed and was successful and they plan to move forward with expansion plans, slated to be complete by the second half of 2016. Does the expansion include building any new pipeline?…

Top 4 of Top 10 Midstream Companies Operate in Marcellus/Utica

We’re now at the halfway mark of 2013 (wow is this year going fast!), so The Motley Fool investor’s website performed an analysis of the “top 10” midstream (pipelines and processing plants) companies and their stock prices–to see which companies are providing the best returns. The thing that caught MDN’s eye about the Motley Fool list is that 4 of the 10–in fact the top 4–are major operators in the Marcellus/Utica Shale region.

Here’s who made the top 10 midstream list, and surprisingly, who didn’t…
