FERC Issues Draft EIS for Cumberland Pipeline to TN Power Plant

The radicals of the odious Sierra Club and its sycophants at the Big Green-funded group Appalachian Voices are attempting to use scare tactics against the neighbors and landowners who live along the route of a 32-mile long, 30-inch wide natural gas pipeline that Kinder Morgan needs to build to feed a new gas-fired power plant near Cumberland City, Tennessee. Hyping up “blast zones” and other nonsense, the neighbors are understandably nervous. The good news is that the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) issued a draft environmental impact statement (dEIS) last week for the project, indicating the project can get built and operated safely.

Sigh. The Bidenistas are at it again–targeting the fossil fuel industry for extinction. The latest attempt came on January 9th when the Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ), which serves as the White House’s environmental policy arm, issued “interim guidance” to assist federal agencies in analyzing so-called greenhouse gas (GHG) and climate change effects of their proposed actions under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). One of the agencies affected by this guidance is the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC). However, FERC is an independent agency and does not necessarily march to the White House drummer. The question is, how much will the new CEQ guidance affect FERC’s policies as the agency evaluates oil and gas pipelines?
For almost a year, we’ve sounded the alarm about a coming change at the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) that will force publicly traded companies to disclose mythical greenhouse gas emissions data (see
In early January, MDN told you that the Bidenista who heads up the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) floated a trial balloon to ban the use of natural gas stoves across the entire country (see
A false and misleading story by the Associated Press spins all sorts of excuses for why the Bidenistas at the federal Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will not be able to do its job in tracking and enforcing reductions in fugitive methane. Donald Trump is one of the reasons, even though he’s been out of office for more than two years. According to the lying “reporters” of the AP, Trump “gutted” the EPA, and the agency doesn’t have enough help (wah wah wah). There aren’t enough satellites, either. And not enough drone technology. Not enough of this and not enough of that–even with the gazillions of dollars allocated to the agency. The truth that shines through the article is this: The Democrats, including Traitor Joe Manchin, passed a new law last year (the Inflation Reduction Act) that sets standards to reduce fugitive methane–and they have no practical way to know if those standards are being met. Isn’t that typical of the left?
Leftist top-down bureaucracies never work. NEVER. Socialism never works. Communism never works (at least in the long term). They all spring from the same poisoned root–arrogant elitists believe they know better than you how to run your life. They extinguish freedom. Example: The Bidenistas want to make decisions for you about which forms of energy you can and can’t use. They dream about a future where dirty, filthy fossil energy is no more. And they allocate trillions of dollars to make it happen. Then what happens? These egg-headed toads sit around and talk about it–and NEVER distribute the money! They hold endless Zoom calls. They require grant forms filled out in triplicate. And then, no money gets distributed. Welcome to Bidentopia.
We love West Virginia. The state continues to fight the good fight against those who insist on trying to defund fossil energy companies. WV’s latest target is the two proxy advisory services, Glass Lewis and International Shareholder Services (ISS), that control some 90% of all corporate proxy voting in the U.S. WV is advancing a new bill, at the prompting of State Treasurer Riley Moore, that the state (including its massive pension fund) will not do business with proxy services that use ESG (environment, social, governance) as a litmus test for how to invest. States like WV (and Florida, and Texas) are changing the game–having an impact.
We simply don’t understand the disturbed minds of the environmental left. Take the recent actions by the leftists at Damascus Citizens for Sustainability (DCS), which is suing the Delaware River Basin Commission (DRBC) after the DRBC adopted most of the rules sought by DCS to permanently block fracking and anything to do with fracking from the Delaware River Basin region. The radicals got 95% of what they wanted, but because it’s not 100%, they are suing in federal court to force the DRBC to start over and achieve 100% of their demands. This is seriously, pathologically, disturbed. We will explain.
In late December, the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (BPU) voted to grant permission to New Jersey Natural Gas (NJNG) to build a pipeline regulator station in Holmdel, NJ. What does a regulator station do? It reduces pressure on the underground natural gas pipelines that already exist in the area, running underneath the ground in Holmdel Township and throughout Monmouth County. Ultimately, a regulator station will ensure the reliability of the pipelines and gas that flows in the area. The new station will replace a currently-operating temporary regulator station. Yet the “leaders” of Holmdel have voted to appeal the BPU decision to court, allocating up to $20,000 (of taxpayer money) for legal fees in what is sure to be a fruitless attempt at overturning the BPU decision.
Today it’s fashionable to go along with the crowd and bash fossil fuels and fossil energy. If you’re a politician and you actually stick up for fossil energy, you don’t get invited to parties with all the cool kids. The thing is, those who bash fossil energy depend on fossil energy for about 90% of the things they use every single day. Do they know? Do they care? If we were to eliminate all fossil energy in the next 5-10 years (a metaphysical impossibility), it would instantly transport these dopes back into the Stone Age.
From time to time, we’ve brought you news about some of the more radical (and violent) people who irrationally hate fossil fuels–members of groups like Extinction Rebellion and its spinoff, Just Stop Oil. Some of their members are the kids who recently tried to deface a Vincent van Gogh painting in London (see
A Marcellus gas-fired power plant in Nicetown (a neighborhood in North Philadelphia) received a permit to build in 2017 (see
Do you remember studying Prohibition in grade school? In the United States, from 1920 to 1933, a nationwide constitutional law prohibited the production, importation, transportation, and sale of alcoholic beverages. A bunch of ninny nannies thought they knew better than everyone else whether or not anyone should consume adult beverages. The ninny nannies eventually got enough politicians to vote in favor of the 18th Amendment to the Constitution. The 21st Amendment, passed some 13 years later, repealed the 18th Amendment. A modern-day version of the same thing is now happening, with cities (and some states, like New York) attempting to ban natural gas stoves, based on false claims that gas stoves are a health hazard. Just like alcohol was a health hazard 100 years ago?
The policies of politicians like New York Gov. Kathy Hochul have real-world consequences. Even if those policies never actually get implemented. Last week, the intellectually-challenged Hochul proposed banning the sale of all new natural gas appliances across the state, and indeed ban hooking up new homes and businesses to gas, by 2030 (see
