Last week Pennsylvania issued 18 permits for new shale well drilling scattered across the state. Ohio (for the eighth week in a row) did not issue any new shale permits. Weekly Shale Drilling Permits for PA, OH, WV: Aug 23-29

Last week both Pennsylvania and West Virginia issued permits to drill new shale wells. Ohio remained skunked for a sixth week in a row. What’s going on in Ohio? Or rather, what isn’t going on there? PA issued 15 new shale permits. Not to be outdone, WV also issued 15 new shale permits.

Weekly Shale Drilling Permits for PA, OH, WV: Aug 16-22

Last week both Pennsylvania and West Virginia issued permits to drill new shale wells. Ohio remained skunked for a fifth week in a row. PA issued 18 new shale permits, mainly in the western part of the state (a few in the northeast). WV issued 7 new shale permits, all of them for the same pad being drilled by EQT in Wetzel County. This is the second week in a row EQT scored all of WV’s new permits, and the second week in a row they were all in Wetzel County.

Weekly Shale Drilling Permits for PA, OH, WV: Aug 9-15

Last week both Pennsylvania and West Virginia issued permits to drill new shale wells. Ohio remained skunked for a fourth week in a row. PA issued 30 new shale permits–one of the highest weekly tallies we’ve seen. PA’s permits were issued for wells on 11 pads, meaning there were a number of multi-well permits issued. WV issued 7 new shale permits, all of them for the same pad being drilled by EQT in Wetzel County.

Neverending Story: More Work to be Done on Revolution Pipe in SWPA

Two and a half years after Energy Transfer’s (ET) 24-inch Revolution Pipeline entered service in western Pennsylvania and exploded following a landslide (in September 2018), the pipeline finally returned to service in March of this year (see PA DEP Finally Allows Revolution Pipe to Restart – After $125K Fine). Revolution Pipeline runs through Bulter, Beaver, Allegheny, and Washington counties. Even though the pipeline has been up and running since March, it’s still not completely, 100%, finished. There’s more work to be done in tidying up.

Weekly Shale Drilling Permits for PA, OH, WV: Apr 12-16

All three M-U states received permits to drill new shale wells last week. Pennsylvania received a whopping 17 new permits spread across various counties and drillers. Ohio received just 2 new permits last week, both for Ascent Resources on the same pad. And West Virginia received a big 12 new permits split between two drillers: Antero Resources and Tug Hill Operating.

Only Pennsylvania, of the three active Marcellus/Utica drilling states, issued new shale drilling permits last week. But PA’s permits were more than enough to make up for Ohio and West Virginia. PA issued 20 new permits in 7 different counties, scattered across the state (although most of the permits were issued in the dry gas northeastern part of the state).

LOLA Energy’s Purchase of EdgeMarc Assets – The Backstory

Yesterday we brought you the news that LOLA Energy continues to transform itself with the purchase of what was EdgeMarc Energy’s shale assets in Butler County, PA (see LOLA Energy Buys Former EdgeMarc Shale Assets in Butler County, PA). LOLA picked up 22,000 net acres of Marcellus/Utica leases, 48 producing shale wells, and 18 DUCs. Ace reporter Paul Gough from the Pittsburgh Business Times spoke with LOLA CEO Jim Crockard and got the backstory behind the deal. It seems Crockard had his eye on that part of the state “for a long time.” He even considered an offer to work for EdgeMarc years ago. Good thing he didn’t take the job.

LOLA Energy (LOLA stands for Locally Owned, Locally Accountable) continues to evolve. Or perhaps transform is a better word. LOLA announced yesterday it has closed on the acquisition of what was EdgeMarc Energy’s assets in Butler County, Pennsylvania. Those assets include 22,000 net acres of Marcellus/Utica leases, 48 producing shale wells, and 18 DUCs (drilled but uncompleted shale wells). It’s time to party, cue the Barry Manilow music!

PA DEP Finally Allows Revolution Pipe to Restart – After $125K Fine

Some two and a half years after Energy Transfer’s (ET) Revolution Pipeline entered service in western Pennsylvania and exploded following a landslide, the pipeline finally returned to service yesterday. The Pennsylvania Dept. of Environmental Protection (DEP) issued a press release to say it had extracted another $125,000 from ET and has allowed the pipeline to resume service.

PennEnergy Sells PA Pipe System to Energy Spectrum & UGI for $205M

Once you sort through all of the subsidiaries of subsidiaries of subsidiaries, you’ll find this news from a press release we spotted this morning: PennEnergy Resources has sold a gathering pipeline system in western Pennsylvania, called Pine Run Midstream, to a joint venture partnership between venture capital firm Energy Spectrum Partners (based in Texas) and utility/pipeline company UGI (based in Pennsylvania). Sale price: $205 million.

West Virginia issued a single new permit last week.

MarkWest Pays Fed EPA $150K for Clean Air Act Violations in SWPA

Last Friday the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced a “settlement” (with no admission of guilt) with MarkWest Energy, with MarkWest paying a $150,000 fine for failure to monitor for air emissions leaks at its Liberty Bluestone facility in Butler County, PA.
