PA DEP Consent Order Delays Restart of Coterra Drilling in Dimock

    December 14, 2022December 14, 2022

Yesterday MDN brought you the great news that Coterra Energy (formerly Cabot Oil & Gas) would be allowed to restart drilling in a nine-square-mile area in Dimock, PA (Susquehanna County) following a “no contest” plea deal with PA’s bullying Attorney General, Josh Shapiro, on a misdemeanor charge (see PA DEP Allows Coterra (Cabot O&G) to Resume Drilling in Dimock). We didn’t have a copy of the DEP consent order yesterday. Today we do, and it shows more details (conditions) before Coterra can actually restart Dimock drilling. The resumption of Dimock drilling *will* happen, but likely not for at least several years.

Dr. Manchinstein Tries to Shock Permitting Reform Bill into Life

    December 14, 2022December 14, 2022

Last week MDN told you that U.S. Senator Joe Manchin’s latest attempt to pass a so-called permitting reform bill (that would save Mountain Valley Pipeline as part of the bargain) had once again crashed and burned (see Manchin’s “Save MVP” Permitting Reform Bill Flames Out Again). The plan was to attach the permitting bill to a defense authorization bill to fund the military. Even though hundreds of leftist wacko groups object, Manchin isn’t giving up. He’s gotten permission from his overlord, Chuck Schumer, to try for a vote to attach his “save MVP” bill to the defense bill despite heavy opposition.

How EOG’s Move into Ohio Utica Shale Will Affect Midstream

    December 14, 2022December 14, 2022

In 2020, EOG Resources, one of the largest oil and gas drillers in the U.S. (with international operations in Trinidad and China), sold *all* of its Marcellus assets, which were located in Bradford County, PA, to Tilden Resources for $130 million (see EOG Resources Sells Marcellus Assets for $130M, Exits Basin). EOG left the M-U building, so to speak. But the company couldn’t stay away. In November, we told you that EOG admitted to stealthily amassing 395,000 net acres in the Ohio Utica for very little money (see EOG Resources Accumulates 395K Acres in Ohio Utica for Under $500M). EOG calls its new position the “Ohio Utica combo play.” We later told you what the company means by that phrase (see EOG Resources has “Double Premium” Plans for Ohio Utica). Today we tackle the topic of how EOG’s Utica combo play will affect the midstream in Ohio.

Eversource Plan for Tiny NatGas Pipe in Western MA Still Alive

    December 14, 2022December 14, 2022

In April, a group of nearly 200 protesters from some 60 different wacko anti-fossil fuel groups turned out to protest a tiny 5-mile pipeline proposed in the Springfield, Massachusetts area (see Climate Crazies Turn Out in Springfield, MA to Protest Tiny Pipe). Springfield City Council objects to the project, too (see Springfield, MA City Council Rejects Eversource NatGas Pipe Plan). Eversource needs to build its Western Massachusetts Natural Gas Reliability Project to prevent outages during the winter. Despite all the pushback, Eversource continues to advance the project. It’s still an active project.

FERC Asks Freeport LNG to Answer 64 Questions Before It Can Restart

    December 14, 2022December 14, 2022

The Freeport LNG export facility maintains it will restart accepting feedgas by the end of December. Following a request by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) to Freeport to respond to a list of 64 questions, we wonder if the plant will make that deadline. We’ve lost track of how many times Freeport, which has been offline since early June following an explosion in the plant, has changed the restart date. Last week the company said the final final final final restart would happen by the end of December (see Freeport LNG Changes Restart Date from Mid- to End-December). Yet yesterday, FERC handed the company an extensive list of questions/issues that must be addressed before a restart can happen.

World Carbon Taxes, Biggest Hoax Ever, Increased 40% in 2021

    December 14, 2022December 14, 2022

In addition to the so-called Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI), a carbon tax on coal- and gas-fired power plants in the northeastern U.S., there are a number of other carbon tax schemes operating around the world. It is the biggest hoax ever perpetrated on the human race–getting us to pay for carbon dioxide emissions, the very stuff you breathe out with every breath you take. Part of the con job Pennsylvania Gov. Wolf tried was to convince everyone the carbon tax wouldn’t cost power plants all that much yet would deliver billions in revenue to the state. But the costs of carbon credits companies are required to purchase have skyrocketed over the past year. EIA says carbon credits went up an average 40% in 2021.
