PA Gov. Shapiro Proves He’s Radical Left – Appeals RGGI Decision

    November 22, 2023November 22, 2023

We’ll say it right up front: We told you so. Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro announced yesterday that he will appeal a decision by the Commonwealth Court that blocks PA’s entrance into the obscene Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI) carbon tax scheme. Are you surprised? Shocked? We certainly aren’t. Shapiro has just revived a huge threat to the future of the Marcellus Shale industry in the Keystone State. Still happy you voted for Shapiro? No, we didn’t think so.

NOG Invests in Utica Wells, Acreage Operated by Ascent Resources

    November 22, 2023November 22, 2023

In February 2021, Northern Oil and Gas, Inc. (NOG), a company that invests in non-operated oil and gas assets (they let others do the drilling), announced it had purchased 64,000 net acres producing ~120 MMcfe/d (million cubic feet equivalent per day) in the Marcellus/Utica from Reliance Industries Limited (see Northern O&G Buys 64K Acres of RIL’s Non-Op M-U Assets for $250M). According to NOG’s second quarter 2022 update, the company continued sniffing around the M-U, looking for more deals (see Northern Oil & Gas Continues to Sniff for Deals in the Marcellus). It took a while (more than a year), but they finally found another deal. Yesterday, NOG announced a “bolt-on” acquisition in its Permian portfolio, and a deal to enter the Ohio Utica.

5-Mile Pipeline in Cambria County, PA to Bring 120 New Jobs

    November 22, 2023November 22, 2023

Pennsylvania’s Pipeline Investment Program (PIPE) issues grants covering part of the cost of building new natural gas pipelines to connect homes and businesses, typically in rural parts of the state, to homegrown Marcellus Shale gas supplies. We’ve written about many PIPE grant projects in the past (see our PIPE stories here). Another PIPE grant was announced yesterday by the Pennsylvania Dept. of Community and Economic Development (DCED). This latest grant of $1.2 million will help build a pipeline to provide natural gas service to the Jackson Township Business Park in Cambria County and nearby residents.

NY Grid Operator to Keep 4 NYC Peakers Online Past Deadline

    November 22, 2023November 22, 2023

The New York Independent System Operator (NYISO), the nonprofit that oversees the state’s electricity system, has warned New York State for YEARS of coming blackouts if peaker plants in New York City are forced to close in 2025 (see NY Grid Operator Again Warns NYC Heading for Blackouts re Peakers). NY Dems, who irrationally hate fossil energy, are forcing the closure of NYC’s peakers, believing unreliable renewables and a big, fat power line from Canada will be enough to keep the lights on. Good luck with that. NYISO has had enough of the nonsense. NYISO will forcibly keep four NYC peakers online — working past the 2025 deadline to shut them all down — in order to prevent a collapse of the electrical system downstate.

5 Trends Poised to Have Biggest Impact on Energy Sector in 2024

    November 22, 2023November 22, 2023

Veteran equity oil and gas analyst Jeff Robertson, managing director with Water Tower Research (WTR), recently compiled an outlook report with the 5 trends he says are poised to have the biggest impact on the energy sector next year. WTR was kind enough to share it with MDN. One of Robertson’s predictions involves a Henry Hub price prediction (which immediately caught our eye). Other predictions involve world tensions, the consolidation trend, and more. It’s a short and enlightening read.
