Delaware Riverkeeper Wins Right to Get Half-Baked Radiation Data

In January 2013 the Pennsylvania Dept. of Environmental Protection (DEP) announced they would study the issue of radiation levels in shale oil and gas waste (see PA DEP Announces New Study of Radiation in Shale Drilling). The study would take an estimated 12-14 months. That time has come and gone. The DEP is finished with its data collection–but not quite done with analyzing, verifying and (eventually) publishing the results. Fisherman: Marcellus Isn’t Causing Fish Kill in Cross Creek Lake

Apparently in the anti-drilling zeal to stop drilling in places like Washington County, PA, some people have made reckless claims that Marcellus Shale drilling has led to fish kills in places like Cross Creek Lake, a 258 acre lake owned by Washington County that sits inside a 3,300-acre county park off Route 50 between Hickory and Avella. Google Spy Car Colludes with EDF to Map “Leaky” Methane Pipelines

Apparently Google wasn’t content with snooping on your private home computer network, grabbing your passwords and online activity as their spy car sneaked down highways and city streets supposedly taking pictures for Google Maps (see Google Loses Appeal in Street View Snooping Case). Google and the Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) colluded to secretly outfit Google’s spy cars with so-called methane leak detectors to monitor methane leaking into the atmosphere because, you know, methane causes (don’t laugh) man-made global warming (*cough* most brutal winter in the past 25 years followed by a cooler-than-normal summer *cough*). NY Antis Release So-Called Compendium of Fracking Health Risks

Apparently anti-drillers in New York State are tired of waiting for the State Dept. of Health (DOH) to release its findings on public healthy implications from proposed new fracking rules from the Dept. of Conservation (now six years overdue). So a group of anti-drillers calling themselves Concerned Health Professionals of New York (mostly it’s New York’s own anti-drilling diva Sandra Steingraber) put a couple of summer interns to good use and compiled a so-called “report” of alllllll the damage done by shale drilling–a compendium of its evil, nasty, vile effects. 24 Anti-Drilling Protesters Arrested by Homeland Security in DC

MDN reported yesterday on the massive flop of a protest in Washington, DC against the Cove Point, Maryland LNG export facility (see Anti-Cove Point LNG Protest in DC Flops Bigtime). The so-called protest literally got no coverage from the media–except for the terrorist-loving Al Jazeera America network. What to do? Some of the more virulent protesters desperately craved some media attention, so they did what they often do–break the law. Anti-Drilling Group Sues PA over Budget and $ from State Leases

The litigious anti-drilling group Pennsylvania Environmental Defense Foundation (PEDF) waited all of about two hours after PA Gov. Tom Corbett signed the 2014 PA budget before filing a lawsuit to prevent the use of money from leasing more state forestland and parks for drilling under (not on). Gov. Corbett originally requested $75 million in new revenue from the effort. As we pointed out, that $75M represents exactly 0.00255 of the budget (see PA Dems: No Leg to Stand on Criticizing $75M Forest Drilling Plan). In other words, a rounding error. Never mind that Ed “fast Eddie” Rendell sold $444 million worth of leases that drill on as well as under, when he was governor. House and Senate Republicans upped the number to $95M and Corbett signed the budget, so the PEDF is trying to make legal mischief, once again…

Anti-Cove Point LNG Protest in DC Flops Bigtime

Well that certainly went bust. Last week MDN told you that anti-drillers would protest yesterday (Sunday) on the Mall in Washington, DC against the already approved Cove Point, MD LNG export facility (see Anti-Drilling Rally Against Cove Point LNG Plant in DC on Sunday). We found one blog site that covered the rally. The only “news” site we could find that ran a story was the terrorist-loving Al Jazeera America (formerly Al Gore’s network). Why no coverage? Because a max of maybe 200 people even bothered to show up. In the same philosophical vein of “If a tree falls in the forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?” We ask: “If a protest rally is held in Washington and no reporters show up, did it really happen?”…

Liberal “Churches” Tell OH to Dump Fracking, Embrace Renewables

Churches pretending to be apolitical, but very much political, are once again in the news with regard to the fracking issue. The United Church of Christ and the Unitarian Universalist denominations are two of the so-called churches behind the move. NY Enviro Groups Seek to Use Oil Trains to Their Advantage

Spurred on by several accidents of trains transporting light crude oil from the Bakken Shale, one month ago the federal government ordered railroads to share more details about those shipments with the states through which they pass. One of those states is New York. Some (a lot) of Bakken crude goes to the Port of Albany, where terminals store the oil and transfer it to ships and barges heading down the Hudson River. New York State is still deciding what information, and how much, to share with the public. The information, according to railroad CSX, is supposed to be shared with first responders (and not the general public). Opposition from Anti Drillers to ET Rover Pipeline in Michigan

Why is it reporters, when writing about proposed pipelines, and talking about the gas that flow through them, always seem to use the same pejorative phrasing. Word for word out of the reporter anti-drilling stylebook it’s usually something like “gas extracted through the controversial practice of hydraulic fracturing, or fracking,” as Gannett reporter Keith Matheny writes in the Detroit Free Press when talking about the recently announced ET Rover pipeline from Energy Transfer Partners that will cross Michigan (see Big News: ETP “Rover” Marcellus/Utica Pipeline to Midwest/Canada). For their part, anti-drillers quoted in such stories always seem to use the same phraseology too…

We’ve pointed out the hardened anti-drillers who oppose the Williams Atlantic Sunrise Pipeline project in Lebanon County, PA only number around 50 people–out of a population of 133,568 residents in that fine county (see Lebanon County Anti-Pipeline Meeting Yields a Surprise). When denied a public forum to spew and spout, they sit on the floor and behave like babies (see Williams’ Smart Open House in Lebanon County Confounds Antis). And when they still can’t get their way, they bring in lawyers (see Lebanon PA Anti-Drillers Plot Ordinance Against Williams Pipeline). In neighboring Lancaster County, they have a small anti-pipeline contingent too–but interestingly they were able to get 75 anti-drillers to turn out for a protest last weekend–a full 50% more than Lenanon County has been able to muster…
