Anti-Fossil Fuelers Pressure New NY Gov to Block Brooklyn Pipe

In case you hadn’t heard, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo resigned and left office in disgrace a month ago. In his place, for the balance of his original term, is the former Lt. Gov. Kathy Hockul. She’s not much better (a far-left liberal Democrat), but at least she’s not corrupt like Cuomo was. A group of leftists trying to block an almost done, very small natural gas pipeline in Brooklyn, NY tried their best but could not convince the Cuomo administration’s Dept. of Public Service to reject it. In fact, the DPS voted unanimously in August to approve a rate hike to finance the Metropolitan Natural Gas Reliability Project. Since antis couldn’t get Lord Cuomo to along, they’re now hoping they can pressure Hokul to cancel it instead.

A recently published book that attempts to show fracking in Lycoming County, PA area in the worst possible light, along with a section excerpted from the book running in the New York Times, once again reopens an old case that accuses Range Resources of ruining the water supply for several homes near a fracked well drilled by Range. In 2011 Range drilled and fracked the Harman Lewis Unit 1H well along Green Valley Road in Hughesville, PA. Following an investigation, the PA Dept. of Environmental Protection (DEP) slapped Range with a record $8.9 million fine in June 2015, accusing the company of faulty casing in its well, leading to methane migration that had contaminated several area water wells (see
Lately we’ve seen multiple news articles about yet another city, or even state, that has launched a lawsuit against one or more Big Oil companies claiming their products are causing man-made global warming (an abject lie), and that those companies have known about this situation for years without doing anything about it, causing the earth to toast. Such lawsuits are not, frankly, about stopping global warming. They are about a government shakedown–politicians dipping their hands into the pockets of companies with money and stealing it. An excellent article appearing on the RealClearEnergy website describes what has been happening with these lawsuits, and why these lawsuits cannot be allowed to go forward.
The so-called budget reconciliation bill Democrats are trying to force through Congress against the will of the American public, a $3.5 trillion monstrosity, will do great harm to the oil and gas industry. On Monday we told you that 130 energy, manufacturing, business, and labor trade organizations, led by the American Petroleum Institute, are sounding the alarm about the methane tax that’s part of the bill (see
Some 130 energy, manufacturing, business, and labor trade organizations, led by the American Petroleum Institute, are sounding the alarm about Democrats’ plan to tax methane emissions into oblivion, a back-door way of attacking natural gas and forcing Americans to quit using it. The coalition of groups sent a letter to the U.S. Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works (headed by WV Sen. Joe Manchin) opposing a plan by Democrats to include the Methane Emissions Reduction Act of 2021 in the $3.5 trillion so-called budget reconciliation bill.
Natural gas drillers, particularly in the Marcellus/Utica, are finally financially healthy. Some are healthy for the first time ever, some for the first time in years, since the severe 2018 and 2019 downturn when natgas prices collapsed. Things are going well in the M-U with most companies focused on fiscal discipline and producing free cash flow. However, there’s a big, black cloud on the horizon–the Joe Biden administration. A number of people in the administration have signaled their disdain, even outright hatred for natural gas, because it’s a “fossil fuel.” The Biden administration aims to cripple the use of natural gas nationwide.
Antis love to work in anonymity. Some of them anyway. They love to anonymously lob lies and smears on Facebook and Twitter and other social media platforms about projects like the 303-mile Mountain Valley Pipeline (MVP) project. Just who is behind those social media accounts? MVP wants to know and has filed a subpoena in federal court asking Facebook to disclose who is behind the Facebook group Appalachians Against Pipelines. Facebook is only too happy to block conservative groups, but for some strange reason, Facebook likes to protect leftists. It’s called censorship and under our Constitution should be illegal. We’ll see if Facebook complies with the court order to disclose the identities of those behind the anti-MVP group.
Yesterday the Pennsylvania Independent Regulatory Review Commission (IRRC) voted to approve the final Environmental Quality Board regulation to slap an insanely high carbon tax, euphemistically called the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI), on PA’s coal and natural gas-fired power plants. The partisan vote was 3-2 (Democrats voting for, Republicans against) in favor of hiking electric rates by an extra $2.36 billion over the next 10 years. Is there any way to stop Gov. Tom Wolf’s illegal entry into RGGI?
Yesterday a group of ~30 protesters rallied at the Historic Courthouse in Chester County, PA, and marched, while chanting, to the County Justice Center. Their protest is against almost completed Mariner East 2 (ME2) pipeline construction and against a long-completed and flowing Mariner East 1 (ME1) pipeline. The protesters, some who were left wing nuts, others who were honest folks who have been duped by Big Green and scaremongers in the media, asked county commissioners to file a Petition for Emergency Relief with the state Public Utility Commission (PUC) to stop any further construction of ME2 and shut down the already-operating ME1 pipeline that runs through the county.
Having struck out at the state level, a group of Big Green radicals is now asking dementia Joe to cancel a tiny 6.8-mile natural gas pipeline stretching from Brownsville to North Brooklyn in New York City that’s already pretty much built. Their false claim? That pipeline is RACIST. That’s right folks. We bet you didn’t know a hunk of inanimate steel buried in the ground could be racist. The radicals claim it can be and is, and Uncle Joe should just wave his magic leftist wand and cancel it.
The constant drumbeat of lies fed to children from the time they are in pre-kindergarten through graduate school that the earth is catastrophically heating due to mankind (a completely false claim) is having an effect. Indeed, it has had a tragic effect–it has radicalized our kids to the point they are now willing to give up their freedoms and they are willing to engage in lawless acts of eco-terrorism, motivated by the belief that everyone on the planet will toast in the next ten years “if we don’t do something now.” It’s sick and it’s child abuse.
