Group of “Religious” Leaders Asks PA Gov Wolf to End All Fracking
Fresh back from Shale Insight in Philadelphia, MDN editor Jim Willis is always pumped after hearing about the technology and safeguards and careful treatment the shale energy industry uses in extracting shale gas. These people are true professionals who care about the work they do–and they want to do it right. They care about the environment. They want to protect the land and our natural resources. They live in the communities where fracking is done. On the other hand, the people who profess to care about such things, anti-drillers, repeatedly prove themselves to be a) mind-numbed robots who believe whatever their movement leaders tell them, b) stark raving mad. Example: A group of extremists who happen to be “religious” have penned a letter to Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf asking him to stop all fracking in the state because they fervently believe (wrongly) that fracking contributes to the mythological existence of man-made global warming. Mainstream media picks this garbage up and repeat it, like it’s a real news story…

Let’s be honest, shall we? The Catholic Church has a Marxist as its leader in Pope Francis–which is a truly sad thing for a great and significant denomination. Pope Francis, nee Jorge Mario Bergoglio, is from Argentina and he supports Marxism, as many do in South America. Pope Francis hates capitalism and appears to be more interested in advancing socialist political policies here on earth than he does in serving Jesus Christ and saving souls. The current situation with Pope Francis distresses many Catholics we personally know. The Pope has thrown in his lot with climate change liars–those who say mankind is causing the earth to warm up–because the so-called climate change movement is the new home of anti-capitalists (i.e. Marxists, i.e. Communists). Scientific fact: global average temperatures haven’t risen now for 18 years. Yesterday, The Heartland Institute participated in a Constitution Day event in Philadelphia to call attention to the Pope’s coming visit to Philly (a visit made possible via fossil fuels) and the Pope’s error-filled teachings against fossil fuels and capitalism…
A single professor from Duke University who lives by the motto “publish or perish” is out with yet another “study” published in a so-called peer reviewed journal. From time to time Avner Vengosh, professor of geochemistry and water quality at Duke University’s Nicholas School of the Environment, pops up to smear the Marcellus Shale. He was in league with the Izaak Walton League to attempt to tie Marcellus drilling to water contamination in Ten Mile Creek (see
We previously told you about anti-fossil fuel groups in three Ohio counties–Athens, Fulton and Medina–who are being used by Big Green groups to attempt an illegal “community bill of rights” routine after the Ohio Supreme Court had already found local communities can’t ban fracking. They tried again and Ohio’s Secretary of State John Husted tossed the ballot measures (see
The global warming/control-every-single-aspect-of-your-life-for-you nutters are on a rampage. Some 400 “organizations” (mostly individuals) have sent a letter to their Dear Leader, Barack H. Obama, asking the Dear Leader to keep all fossil fuels in the ground. Sensing that their time grows short while Dear Leader is still in office, the nutjobs, wackos and ne’er do wells in the most extreme part of the environmental movement (which is pretty much all of it) are pressing their advantage while they have a sympathetic ear in the White House. The letter, delivered yesterday (a copy is embedded below) predictably uses man-made global warming as the excuse to choke off all further fossil fuel extraction on U.S. owned or controlled land. In good liberal fashion they’ve created a catchy phrase for their effort: “Keep it in the ground.” They’re starting with federally controlled land first–then they’ll go after private land next. Below is the press release from EARTHWORKS, one of the worst of the worst of these lunatic organizations…
Love it, love it, love it! What would it actually be like without fossil fuels in our lives? We hear it all the time–global warming nutters “demanding” we end the use of fossil fuels. Read today’s related story about a group of 400 people who wrote to Obama demanding that he “keep it [fossil fuels] in the ground.” The Western Energy Alliance (WEA) is calling their bluff. The WEA is challenging those who profess to want to end the use of fossil fuels to participate in a Fossil Fuel Free Challenge for five days–so they can see for themselves just what life would be like without the miracle of fossil fuels. The dirty little secret is, they can’t do it, because they can’t live without fossil fuels in their lives. It’s impossible. This is a brilliant move on the part of the WEA–calling the bluff of those agitating for an end to fossil fuels–exposing the lie that it’s even possible…
It appears that fossil fuel hate group FANG–Fighting Against Natural Gas–has struck again in Rhode Island. We told you in August about two FANG radicals who used PVC pipe (made from fossil fuels) and tar to stick themselves to each other and to a fence at a site where a natural gas compressor station is being built (see
A major defeat for Pennsylvania’s anti-drilling groups, including THE Delaware Riverkeeper, was just handed down by the Pennsylvania Commonwealth Court in a Lycoming County zoning case. In Gorsline v. Board of Supervisors of Fairfield Township, anti-drilling neighbors, including Brian and Dawn Gorsline, Paul and Michele Batkowski and others (collectively “Gorsline”) sued to stop a conditional use permit granted by Fairfield Township to allow Inflection Energy to construct a well pad on the property of Donald and Eleanor Shaheen. The case was weak, but the lowest court in the PA court system–the Court of Common Pleas (i.e. county court)–said the ninny nanny neighbors had a right to strip away the Shaheen’s property rights to allow drilling on their own property. The PA Commonwealth Court obliterated the faulty reasoning of the lower court and has, significantly, redefined how courts should interpret the results of the Act 13 zoning lawsuit that allows local municipalities the right to restrict shale drilling. The Commonwealth Court decision (full copy below) has kicked the legal legs out from under those seeking to use an amicus brief filed by THE Delaware Riverkeeper in the Act 13 case…
A group of hard-left environmentalist groups dedicated to the irrational idea of eliminating the use of all fossil fuels because they believe in the myth of man-made global warming are giving high praise to America’s most liberal governor, Tom Wolf, and Wolf deputy John Quigley (the PennFuture Secretary of the Dept. of Environmental Protection) for hosting a series of “listening” sessions in 14 PA locations. The sessions are meant to gather comment and support for draconian cuts in coal and natural gas-burning electric plants as part of Barack Hussein Obama’s Clean Power Plan (CPP). Yesterday a group of these nutters held a press conference (listen below) to praise Wolf/Quigley and to encourage the nutty faithful to turn out in force to support the equivalent of PA cutting it’s own economic throat. The organizations supporting the CPP and PA’s self immolation in the name of global warming include: Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), PennFuture, Clean Air Council, Moms’ Clean Air Force, Penn Environment, NextGen Climate America, Conservation Voters of PA, Clean Water Action, Voces Verdes, the Sierra Club, the Union of Concerned Scientists, and Audubon Pennsylvania. Please be sure you NEVER send any of them a dime…
Warning: You’re now entering… the anti-fossil fuel Twilight Zone. An anti-fossil fuel group that calls itself ForestEthics last week launched what they hope will be a public relations sensation–a campaign to scare the wits out of every person in the country, particularly young children. Their angle? If a rail tanker car carrying crude oil passes anywhere within a mile of where you are–BANG!–it may blow up and if you’re within a mile, you’re in “the blast zone.” They’ve even produced a handy dandy online mapping app where you can plug in your address and see if you live or work or (shutter) go to school in a blast zone. DANGER WILL ROBINSON! RUN FOR THE HILLS!! Of course, this is just another anti-fossil fuel campaign aimed at taking us back to the Stone Ages where we all burn wood for fuel. Oh wait, that creates carbon–can’t do that! Better yet, let’s just extinguish all carbon-generating human life–we’re a just pestilence on precious Mother Earth, ya know…
You really can’t make this stuff up. CORN–the Ohio-based Coalition to Reroute Nexus (as in the NEXUS pipeline)–is holding a CORN maze for a fund-raiser. Could anything be CORNier? Of course, CORN is not really about re-routing the NEXUS pipeline to another area–it’s about stopping it altogether. Antis have a hard time telling the truth. It seems to be a congenital flaw. We’ve previously written about CORN on a number of occasions (see our
In a shameless act of political pandering, the president of the Massachusetts State Senate, Stan Rosenberg (Democrat), ran his own version of a Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) scoping hearing. Such hearings, while meant to elicit useful information about where a pipeline should, and should not, run, usually devolve into freak shows by anti-drilling zealots who parade and preen before the cameras and microphones–making fools of themselves. We’ve seen it many times before. So Rosenberg, apparently not satisfied that there’s not a FERC hearing every week where anti-drilling zealots in Mass. can gripe and moan and complain, set up his own faux session. He “listened” to some 60 people complain about the proposed Kinder Morgan Northeast Energy Direct pipeline. Stan says he’s going to hand deliver transcriptions of the entire sordid affair to FERC, personally…
We have a troubling development to report about the future of drilling in West Virginia–something that has happened largely under the radar, until now. More than 200 residents in WV (likely those who don’t own the mineral rights under their land) began filing “scores” of “nuisance” lawsuits over the past couple of years against Antero Resources and Hall Drilling, in places like Doddridge County. The lawsuits claim excessive traffic, odors and noise from nearby drilling make it “impossible” for them to enjoy their homes. Each lawsuit has its own unique circumstances and should be handled separately–one size does not fit all. The troubling development is that all of these lawsuits (dozens? hundreds?) have been rolled up into one mega lawsuit that sits before the WV Mass Litigation Panel…
Grant Township in Indiana County, PA has a problem: They’ve hired a potty mouth lawyer to represent them who has a HUGE conflict of interest. Grant’s town attorney is also the lawyer for (and executive director of) the litigious and extreme left-wing group Community Environmental Legal Defense Fund (CELDF), a group committed to ending the use of fossil fuels. We’ve written plenty about the antics of the CELDF, including their lawsuit on behalf of an ecosystem (see
A researcher with the California Institute of Technology has taken a close look at what would happen if five major universities–Harvard, Yale, MIT, Columbia and NYU–heeded the siren call of anti-fossil fuel nutters to divest their considerable endowments from holding any fossil fuel-related stocks. Just those five universities would lose a combined $200 million of value in their stock portfolios should they divest from fossil fuel stocks. Such efforts have been going on for some time. Not long ago Syracuse University divested all fossil fuel stocks, which will lead to losses in their endowment fund (see
