PA Construction Co. Glenn Hawbaker Pays $20M for “Stolen Wages”

Glenn O. Hawbaker, Inc., long known for providing stone quarries and asphalt plants in Pennsylvania and Ohio, also provides civil construction services for shale well sites. In early August Pennsylvania’s Attorney General Josh Shapiro, an anti-drilling partisan hack, announced a plea deal with Hawbaker to pay back $20 million in alleged “stolen wages” from over 1,000 Hawbaker employees. After the plea deal, the Pennsylvania Dept. of Transportation (PennDOT) moved to deny any new construction contracts to Hawbaker for the next three years–contracts worth hundreds of millions of dollars.

PA AG Uses Stories of Minor Accidents to Indict ET for Pipe Crimes

Last week we told you about the uber-sleazy Attorney General in Pennsylvania, Josh Shapiro, handing down an indictment with 48 counts against Energy Transfer over (mostly) drilling mud spills–accidents that were previously addressed and handled by the state Dept. of Environmental Protection (see Corrupt PA AG Shapiro Charges Mariner East 2 Pipe with 48 Crimes). Shapiro is using the case to promote himself in his run for governor. What a sleaze. The worst part is the collusion by the media in picking out isolated sob stories to pretend there’s been a pattern of misbehavior on the part of ET.

Corrupt PA AG Shapiro Charges Mariner East 2 Pipe with 48 Crimes

click for larger version

Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro, who is running for the Democrat nomination for governor in 2022, accepts big donations from Big Green groups. Ergo, his office is an open door for Big Green to use to falsely prosecute the shale industry in PA. The latest egregious abuse of the AG’s power happened yesterday when the bloviating Shapiro, an insufferable (expletive deleted) announced he is charging the Mariner East 2 (ME2) pipeline project with 48 so-called environmental crimes. It’s all an elaborate hoax to try and shut down ME2. We simply can’t let that happen…

3 Old Hippies Convicted of Blocking MVP in Va., Fined $1K Each

In July MDN told you about three senior citizen protesters who parked a hippie-mobile across a narrow road where workers travel to work on the 92% complete Mountain Valley Pipeline (MVP) in Roanoke County, Virginia (see 3 Old Hippies Block MVP Work in Va. – Arrested & Removed). County police ensured the old hippies still had a pulse and were hydrated, then a few hours later (to give them ample time to enjoy themselves), arrested and hauled them away. On Monday they had their day in court. After pleading innocent, they were all found guilty and fined $1,000 each for their geriatric stunt.

Protesters arrested (credit: WOAY-TV)

Two out-of-state anti-fossil fuel protesters, one just a girl of 19 years old, were arrested Friday morning after they chained themselves to equipment at a construction site for the 303-mile Mountain Valley Pipeline (MVP) in Greenbrier County, WV. Anna Grace Woolly, 19, of Viles, NC, and Thomas George Tackett, 25, of Jackson, MO were arrested and charged with trespassing, obstructing an officer, and conspiracy.

FirstEnergy Agrees to Pay $230M to Settle Nuke Plant Bribery Case

Ohio’s House Bill (HB) 6 law granted billions (plural) of dollars to FirstEnergy in an attempt to prop up the company’s economically failing nuclear power plants. FirstEnergy bribed state legislators to pass, and keep passed, HB 6 by paying out $61 million to a small group of insiders, including the now-former Speaker of the House (see FirstEnergy Involved in Bribery Scheme to Pass $1B Nuke Bailout Law). It is the biggest bribery scandal in Ohio history. FirstEnergy finally, openly, admitted they paid the bribe money just a few months ago (see FirstEnergy Admits to $61M Payment in Massive Bribery Scandal). Last Thursday the company announced it will pay the federal and Ohio state governments $230 million (split evenly) to make the mess it’s made go away.

3 Old Hippies Block MVP Work in Va. – Arrested & Removed

It’s never too late to relive the glory days of protesting the Vietnam war. For years we’ve made the observation that a number of the people who oppose fracking, and now pipelines, are vintage war protesters who have rediscovered the “joy” they had in the ’60s and 7’0s by protesting against fossil fuels today. Case in point: three senior citizen protesters parked a hippie-mobile across a narrow road where workers travel to work on the 92% complete Mountain Valley Pipeline (MVP) in Roanoke County, Virginia. County police ensured the protesters still had a pulse and were hydrated, then a few hours later (to give them ample time to enjoy themselves), the cops arrested and hauled them away.

5 Men Get Probation for Years-Old Marcellus Truck Emissions Scam

We finally come to the end of a saga that began nearly three years ago, in Sept. 2018 when six men were charged with conspiring to illegally alter emissions systems on 30+ trucks with heavy-duty diesel engines, trucks used to haul water and wastewater to and from Marcellus Shale wells (see 6 Charged with Bypassing Emissions Controls on Marcellus Trucks). All six pled guilty. One of the six did jail time. The other five were finally sentenced last week–to probation.

FirstEnergy Continues to Clean House re Bribery Scandal

Ohio’s House Bill (HB) 6 law granted billions (plural) of dollars to FirstEnergy in an attempt to prop up the company’s economically failing nuclear power plants. FirstEnergy bribed state legislators to pass, and keep passed, HB 6 by paying out $61 million to a small group of insiders, including the now-former Speaker of the House (see FirstEnergy Involved in Bribery Scheme to Pass $1B Nuke Bailout Law). It is the biggest bribery scandal in Ohio history. Last October the FirstEnergy board fired the CEO, Senior VP of Marketing, and Senior VP of External Affairs over the scandal. Add one more to the list…

Co. Pleads Guilty, Fined $2M for Marcellus Truck Emissions Scam

In September 2018, MDN brought you the news that six men had been charged with conspiring to illegally alter emissions systems on 30+ trucks with heavy-duty diesel engines, trucks used to haul water and wastewater to and from Marcellus Shale wells (see 6 Charged with Bypassing Emissions Controls on Marcellus Trucks). All six eventually pleaded guilty (see Man Pleads Guilty to Bypassing Emissions Controls on Marc. Trucks). The company involved in the scandal, Rockwater, has now pleaded guilty and will pay a $2 million fine.

Out-of-State Protester Arrested for Blocking MVP Work in Va.

Protester hanging from a crane

Yet another out-of-state anti-fossil fuel protester, from Michigan, has been arrested for blocking work at a Mountain Valley Pipeline (MVP) construction site. The 27-year-old woman (completely brainwashed) climbed up and chained herself to a construction crane in Giles County, Va. She trespassed at the site and caused a four-hour delay for work crews. She should pay the cost of their salaries and the equipment rental for those lost four hours.

No Bond for 2nd MVP Tree-Sitter – Sitting Butt in Jail Until Trial

Nearly two weeks ago MDN reported that the final two “tree sitters” (a man and a woman) who were illegally blocking the path of Mountain Valley Pipeline by living for months/years at the top of several trees, were finally removed from the trees where they were living by law enforcement (see Final Two MVP Tree Sitters Arrested, One in Jail Until Trial). The judge in the case ordered the woman (from Vermont) to sit her butt in jail until her trial because she’s a flight risk and may scarper back up a tree somewhere. The judge has just ordered the same sentence for the man (from Massachusetts). He’s a flight risk too and has demonstrated a total disregard for the law, so he now gets to sit his butt in jail until the trial as well.

Final Two MVP Tree Sitters Arrested, One in Jail Until Trial

Over the past few years, radicalized environmentalists have taken the law into their own hands in an effort to block pipeline construction. Some of the more wacky ones decided to build themselves tree stands and live, full-time, up in the top of trees that are in the path of Mountain Valley Pipeline (MVP). Their aim was to prevent the trees from being cut down, ultimately blocking construction of the pipeline (see Still a Few “Tree Sitters” Left Blocking Section of MVP in Va.). Last fall a judge ordered the final two wackos to come down or else (see Judge Orders Tree-Sitting Wackos to Stop Blocking MVP or $500/Day). The “or else” finally happened this week.

Lobbyist Charged in FirstEnergy Bribery Scandal Found Dead in FL

Neil Clark (credit: Ohio Public Radio)

Neil Clark, 67, was arrested last July and charged with racketeering as part of a federal investigation into House Bill 6 (see FirstEnergy Involved in Bribery Scheme to Pass $1B Nuke Bailout Law). Clark was a “close political ally of then-House Speaker Larry Householder.” Householder, since removed from his position, seems to be at the center of the scandal. Federal prosecutors described Clark as Householder’s “enforcer” who coordinated supporters and fundraising efforts. Clark was found dead in Florida on Monday.

Generation Now Pleads Guilty in $61M FirstEnergy OH Nuke Scandal

On Friday, representatives of a “dark money” political action committee called Generation Now signed a guilty plea admitting their part in the biggest bribery scandal to ever hit Ohio. Generation Now was set up as a social welfare nonprofit but in reality was a shell organization that received “tens of millions of dollars” from FirstEnergy as part of a $61 million bribery scandal to pass and keep passed House Bill (HB) 6 which funnels over $1 billion from Ohio ratepayers to FirstEnergy in order to keep the company’s unprofitable nuclear power plants running.

Ohio Passes Bill Punishing Illegal Protesters at O&G Sites

Anti-fossil fuelers love to protest things. Fine. Let them protest. This is (still) America. But when antis tip over into illegal acts like blocking legal activities of building pipelines or drilling wells, or when antis tip over into acts of vandalism like destroying equipment, that’s NOT okay. Antis call it “protesting.” We call it criminal behavior. A bill just passed in the Ohio legislature calls such activity what it is–crimes. And now (provided Gov. DeWine signs the bill into law, which is expected), such miscreants will pay stiff fines and in some cases do jail time for their crimes.
