WV Judge in Landowner Royalty Lawsuit Points Gun at EQT Lawyer

This is one of those more bizarre court cases we’ve heard about. In April 2021, MDN reported that a group of West Virginia landowners/rights owners filed a claim against EQT, alleging the company had allowed leases to lapse, then at a later date, reentered their property and drilled new wells without permission (see Federal Judge Allows EQT Trespass Lawsuit in WV to Advance). The case, Huey v. EQT, has been in and out of federal court. A West Virginia Second Judicial Circuit Judge, hearing a related part of the case, is accused of pulling out a gun and leaving it on his bench pointing at the attorney representing EQT, who was, understandably, quite nervous.

Corrected: 25 New Shale Well Permits Issued for PA-OH-WV May 2-8

We always wait a few days into a new week before grabbing new shale well permits data to give the folks at the various state agencies time to update their systems for the previous week. 2 Frack Equipment Manufacturers Face Lawsuit re WV Pad Explosion

On July 7, 2018, Jeffrey Blaniar was working as a blending operating for Southwestern Energy at a well pad in New Martinsville, WV (in Wetzel County). When Blaniar approached a pump to turn it off, it exploded, causing second-degree burns and breaking several bones. Blaniar’s left foot and lower leg eventually had to be amputated. It was a tragic accident to be sure. Blaniar sued Southwestern for negligence as well as the pump manufacturer and hose fitting manufacturer. Last Friday a federal judge ruled the two manufacturers, which had petitioned to have the case against them dropped, must face a potential jury trial to prove their products did not contribute to the accident.

Tug Hill and XcL Midstream Using Project Canary for RSG Cert in WV

Project Canary, a program that certifies natural gas drillers and pipeline companies as producing responsibly sourced gas (RSG), continues to make big inroads in the Marcellus/Utica. Earlier this week MDN told you that Olympus Energy will use Project Canary to certify both its drilling and (believed to be a first in the country) its gathering pipeline system (see Olympus Using Proj Canary to Monitor Drilling & Pipes for Methane). We have another pair of M-U customers vying to be the first driller/midstream combo operation to get Project Canary approval: Tug Hill Operating along with Tug Hill’s pipeline sister company, XcL Midstream Operating.
